Retired Green Beret Chris Perkins Challenges Gerry Connolly for Congress
Posted by: Hope for Real Change ()
Date: March 04, 2012 12:07PM

Republican Chris Perkins, 55, a retired U.S. Army officer who lives with his family in Lorton and is now a self-employed defense consultant, recently kicked off a campaign to represent Virginia's 11th Congressional District, the seat currently held by Democratic Congressman Gerald Connolly.

Perkins will compete in the Republican primary election June 12 against Ken Vaughn and Steven Yeh, the only others currently in the GOP primary race for the 11th Congressional District. Perkins has raised $178,000, with Vaughn raising $120,000, according to the Federal Election Commission. There is no record of Yeh yet raising funds.

Republican Keith Fimian, a businessman from Oakton, came close to unseating Connolly, in his second attempt in 2010, but is now reportedly considering a run for lieutenant governor. Fimian lost to Connolly by less than 1,000 votes or .4 percent.

In Perkins' military career, mainly as a Green Beret (a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces), he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his role in an attempt to rescue a downed aircrew during Operation Desert Storm. After retiring from the Army as a full Colonel in 2006, Perkins was hired by the U.S. Coast Guard to help establish a maritime quick reaction force to help secure the nation's coastline. He is currently self-employed as a defense consultant helping small businesses provide deployed troops with equipment and services.

A native of Vermont, Perkins lives in Lorton with wife Petra; the two are parents to daughter Alex, a graduate of Virginia Tech, and son Nick, a cadet at West Point.

Perkins answered some questions about his run for Congress from Patch this week:

This forum is not a great place to post this information. As we saw in previous political threads, Fairfax Underground is on the list of forums being monitored by Gerry Connolly's campaign. You can expect the personal attacks to begin today.

I'm not part of Connolly's campaign and there are plenty of Republicans who post on this forum. I'm pointing out that politics might not be in the wheel house of a retired Green Beret.

Perkins has my vote. But then again Bozo the Clown would have my vote to rid this district of Connolly. I remember Connolly as being the Chairman on the Fairfax BOS when they pulled the shell game of lowering your home value and increasing the value of the land. Thus causing the assessed value to go up when the real estate market was going down.

Reelect Congressman Perkins. I like the sound of that.

Chris Perkins' time on Capitol Hill, including a year as a Congressional Fellow, is more experience than Gerry Connolly had when he ran for Congress.

A lot of us are disappointed that Gerry decided to focus his efforts on pleasing the national Democratic leadership and bashing Virginia Republicans, rather than representing our shared interests in Fairfax County.

First of all, Fuck you Gerry. You are a piece of shit. You voted with Obama, Pelosi Reid, 97% of the time. Thanks for taking care of your district, you suck. I cannot wait to vote you out of office just like everyone else. You do not have a chance this time.

Second of all, good to hear a green beret is in the race. He will bring common sense, and REAL LEADERSHIP, not kissing the ass or being beholden to stupidity regardless of party. Second of all, he understands American's right to the 2nd amendment Gerry. Nice try trying to sponsor even more restrictive legislation, curtailing our freedoms given to us by our founding fathers.

Gerry, go sharpen your weasel teeth on some firewood somewhere, because we are gonna vote your fat ass out of D.C., and no longer have a clown representing our district.

Which was a perfectly rational thing to do, given that the cost of providing services such as schools doesn't go down just because the nominal value of your house drops

If you don't want to live in a county that sees the value of high quality services in attracting talent, then push off to some dead end red-neck backwater and see how you like it.

I guess you'd be a GOP-er who didn't seem to see a problem when Cheney discovered a previously unknown independent arm of government that the founding fathers had somehow left behind the cupboard...

Actually that was quite bipartisan, in response to the 9/11 attacks, that could have been prevented(proven three times) by Bill Clinton. That pussy didn't have the balls on three times to kill Osama, worried about collateral damage. After he already killed Americans and countless hundreds of others at the Embassy bombings and elsewhere.

And its not exclusively a GOP idea, it was too strong and does need some re-doing, there's no denying that. Look at the votes, you'll see plenty of D's there.

Hey Gerry! Look at this! I feel better already. Think
I'll go out and volunteer for Chris Perkins.

http://www.perkins2012.com/issues#immigration

Immigration

I support one of the basic principles of this nation that an individual of any ethnic heritage, economic status, racial or religious background can become an American and experience its promise of freedom --- as long as that individual follows the established, legal path to citizenship.

Protecting Our Borders. One of the core missions of the federal government is to protect our nation’s borders. My personal experience working with both the Customs & Border Protection and the United States Coast Guard is that they are staffed by some of the best America can offer but are woefully under resourced to do their jobs. I would make it a priority to fix that situation.

Enforcing Current Laws. Recognizing America as a nation of law and order, my wife went through the established and time-tested process to become a U.S. citizen. Terms such as ‘undocumented workers’ have no meaning for her, and neither do they for me. We need to call it what it is: ‘illegal’, and we need to deal with the problem just as we would enforce any other illegal action.

The Weasel is toast. Fimian was a lackluster candidate at best. In fact, I thought horrible, although anyone is better than the Weasel. Hi Weasel, meet Col. Perkins. Maybe you should just not run again, as you have no chance now.

Not really . Gerry won by a slim margin and Fimean conducted a less than stellar campaign moving too far right on social issues. Perkins is talking economy which effects everyone.
Remember Connolly winning after the voting machines "malfunctioned" in Lorton. If this had happened and Fimean had won liberals would be crying fix.

Most of us who served in the 60's and early 70's have put Vietnam behind us. After all, it was 40+ years ago. We came home, found jobs, got married, raised kids, retired, now have grandkids. You might consider seeking some counseling. Medicare covers it.

Also, there is a surplus of golf courses these days, so if you can still walk you might try it. Good exercise.

Even with the "gerrymandering" how appropriate with this Gerry aka the Weasel and Obama ass kisser, best of luck on his return to office. He barely beat Fimian. Barely, by a margin that is laughable. Its going to be hilarious to see him get stomped out by a real man, a man of honor, a Green Beret, military veteran, and someone who's actually kicked ass instead of kissed it all day.

I'm a Nam vet too and I can relate to your attitude. In my own
guestimation, roughly 25% of the NCO's and Officers had no business
in the military but they'd joined up when educational requirements
were far easier than they are now. I know full what it's like to have
a complete moron who can barely read sitting in an administrative
(non-combatant) position marking time until retirement. Back in those
days LIFER stood for Lazy Ignorant F***er Expecing Retirement.
I laughed my ass of back in the mid-70's when the military instituted
a hight/weight requirement and all the fat boys had to shed the belly
or seek employment elsewhere. It's a different world now with the all
volunteer military and whether for the better or worse still remains to
be seen. However, Col. Perkins record doesn't fit the stereotype you're
referring to at all and I will proudly vote for him come the election.

Xa Hoi Mah!!!!

Actually, two things.

First and foremost Special Forces Soldiers, while they have faced somewhat of a change regarding their historical FID/UW to more DA missions, still have as their bread and butter the ability to teach and work with foreign cultures. So far I've never met a "Green Beret" who doesn't possess at least some ability to teach, lead, and unite. Now, I'm not saying this will apply to politics here 100% of the time, but it's a great foundation.

Second, you're bound to see a Special Forces Soldier willing to stand by their views and fight for them, as opposed to selling out and stabbing their colleagues in the back. Sure, there might be 10%ers out there, and Blue Falcons to boot, but such chances are fortunately still in the minority.

I only wish we had someone like this running against Moron, and we actually have had some good candidates, but unseating him with his Arlington stronghold backing him up is damned difficult.

When your home value went lower is that not when your taxes went down? I don't know. I'm obviously not as smart as you. So you live in Fairfax County and enjoy the services of this county. Have you ever been any place else? We have clean streets, good schools and a police force that shoots anyone who looks cross eyed at them. Having a former Marine who is brain locked should be great. I bet he really can help with getting funds for public transportation considering the experience. I bet he really is a flexible intellect who can see both sides of any problem. Fuck you. Green Berets are Army.

Special Forces guys are incredibly smart. They also specialize in problem solving. Only a true idiot would think theyre brain dead.

The only thing you got right in that incoherent incorrect rant is that you arent as smart as other people.

No PTSD here, douchebag. I did all of the above, plus built a business that employs over 100. Good thing I guess, I'm too young for Medicare.

The point was, most career military officers are self-serving dolts that aren't the solution to any problem that I can think of.

Oh, all you morons saying the Conman loves illegals. BOTH political parties want these people here. It's for different reasons, but all 535 of the crooks in Congress want the illegals here. Get over it.

"lowering your home value and
increasing the value of the land"

Hey genius, your assessment is the sum based on the total of home value and land value. Yes the home value went down slightly and in some cases the land value assessment tripled. So the overall assessment went up thus your taxes went up. I dont expect you to understand living in your public housing hovel. But keep trying.

BTW the Green Berets are Army you dumb fuck not the Marines.

Speaking of brain locked, Col Perkins was in the Army and
not the Marines. Do you know how to read or do you just not know
the difference?

No. YOU get over it. I'm not going to roll over and play dead just
because Jihad Gerry wants to snuggle up with developers and
construction companies for cheap labor. Obviously you failed
to read my earlier post where Col. Perkins clearly spells out
his views on illegal immigration so here it is again:

Gerry has performed exceptionally well representing the 11th. This is a sentiment shared by the majority of 11th District voters. Gerry will again win re-election handily this year.

I am proud to call Gerry Connolly my Congressman.

I think all the Perkins supporters should contribute lots and lots of cash to his campaign. Get all your friends to contribute, too. Because it's wasted money. Go check out the redistricting, and the revised demographics in this distrct, and then come back and start bleating about how Connolly's going to lose.

But feel free.

Always easy to spot the people who know nothing about politics, who can't read a map.

Oh, and draft numbers during the Vietnam era are easily accesssible on the Internet. Go look GC's birthday up.

March 30th was indeed drafted during the 2nd lottery on July 1st 1970. It was number 56 and numbers up to 95 were called into the draft.

It was also drafted on March 8th 1973 with number 21 out of 95 called up.

It was called again on march 20th 1974 with number 15 out of 95 that were called up.

Gerry does not owe you or anyone else an explanation from 40 years ago. Ask him, and he'll tell you the same.

Gerry could just say he "had other priorities" at the time. It worked for Dick Cheney and numerous other chickenhawks.

If Perkins stays focused on the economy and the massive amount of debt accumulated under Connolly he will have a chance. If he steers into personal social issues we will be stuck with Connolly again. And before WTL says well Bush did it too I agree the previous twenty years have bought us into a debt we can never hope to dig out of. All share responsiblity so it is time to stop the spending.

I was also unable to corroborate that Colonel Perkins was awarded the DFC. However, in fairness to Colonel Perkins, the DFC Society site is significantly incomplete, and I don't think he's notable enough to warrant a Wikipedia article.

If one wanted to verify that Colonel Perkins was nominated for the DFC, one could write a letter or fill out Standard Form 180 as described here: http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/public/general-public.html

However, this would only confirm if Colonel Perkins was eligible for the DFC, not if it was actually awarded.

Does anyone know how to verify whether or not an award was actually given? I'm thinking it's probably in the National Archives somewhere, but I'm not sure where to look.

Honestly for something like that its doubtful theres a full data base with all the awards given and to who online for anything other than the Medal of Honor with how many awards the military has given out. Also since he was a special forces guy they wont allow stories to be published about what he did to get it just like we will never know who the actual Seals were on the Osama raid.

The only way to really know for sure would be to check is service record or get in touch with someone who can check it and confirm it. Again since he was spec ops that will be nearly impossible without some powerful friends.

Truth be told, the home values on the tax assessments are/were completely out-of-whack. There is no way you can tell me that 4br house is worth $500k and the land $200k, when you could buy that exact same house new in Ohio for only $250k. The dwelling in both cases is worth closer to $200k, and the remainder ($50k in Ohio, $500k in Fairfax) is the price of land.

Having said that, that's a completely different issue from taxes. They could have easily readjusted the assessed values of the land and dwelling back to reality while holding taxes constant.

I asked a similar question when my land value tripled under Connolly. I was told well the land is more valuable because you can tear down your home and put up a bigger one. My HOA does not allow this but was told by the county too bad the increase stands.

I had to forward GI Joe's interview inthe Patch to some of my friends. This guy is hilarious. I especially got a chuckle from this: ""The almost 25 years I spent in uniform, most of them as a Green Beret traveling to some of the most god-forsaken places on the planet, have certainly given me a unique perspective regarding the role of government..." Right. He's got all the answers for getting everything strack and squared away. In fact, that's just a cover for distracting people from the fact that he has absolutely no government experience whatsoever. This guy is just another reactionary cliche riddled former officer hell bent on following the flag up Uncle Sam's ass. A living, breathing anacronism pimping his military service for a ticket to some sort of influence. If he even gets the nomination, Connolly will eat him alive.

So being in the military isn't government? Last time I checked the
Army was still under DoD. Special Forces troops also work very
closely with the intelligence agencies and others.

This stinking Country is supposed to be a democracy.

The fucking military is NOT a democracy, in fact is totalitarian.

That's why you don't want CAREER military fucks trying to run a democracy.

Except for Grant and Ike those former presidents served in time of war and then got the hell out.

Boots: The hell with posting this thread. Post the inspirational interview from the Patch in its entirety. And make sure to to underline this part:

Q: What are your top three priorities if elected?

A: "Simple. I want to 'serve, protect and restore.'

Wow! This absolutely gives me goose bumps everytime I read it. Moreover, why don't you and the boys at the Legion go one step further and show your support for the Colonel by getting matching tatoos of this inspiring phrase?

GOP RULEBOOK PAGE 428:

Q: What do I say when someone asks me a really hard question that I can't answer?

A: Just come up with a kick-ass sounding tagline like you might hear in a John Wayne movie or a shitty modern country and western song.

Remember, the only smart people who vote for us are the rich ones who don't feel like paying taxes and they aren't going anywhere no matter what you say. The rest of the dum dums whose votes we need in order to make this whole thing work are easily duped with tough-guy sounding non-answers, bigotry, gun stuff, and general expressions of fear and intolerance for anything that doesn't fit nicely into their false 1950's propaganda-based notion of what America is all about.

Fact: Higher turnout benefits Democrats. This is why republicans are constantly trying to create barriers to the voting process despite little to no evidence of voter fraud.

Fact: Short of catastrophic scandal, and even then, unseating any incumbent is very difficult. Deceased incumbents have won elections over challengers.

I like how you went from lack of elementary political knowledge to conspiracy theory in 0.002 seconds though. That was neat.

You still didn't answer my questions.

Unpaid. It IS a presidential election year (fact). Presidential election years have high turnout (fact). The district is more Democratic than Republican (fact).

But dream on. It's OK by me. If you weren't supporting a guy who's sure to lose, you might be doing something constructive.

48% of Americans receive some sort of government entitlement. Couple that with liberals who would pull the D lever for Stalin himself and you have an easy Obama victory.

Is Obama running for Congress in our District? Didn't know that.
Federal employees and retirees are furious over Obamacare.
Gerry gets to run on that one. Morale in the military is
in the tank thanks to the repeal of DADT and looming RIFs.
Can't wait until the first debate.

Well the way the GOP primaries are going, and especially Romney's only beating Paul by less than 20% in VA yesterday, Obama unfortunately is going to win. That's really bad, scary news, with regards to many issues, from 2nd amendment to national defense.

As for the Weasel, he's toast. If he even runs for re-election, I will be more than happy to corner him at one of his baloney forums, and ask him about the draft. Plus, what's even funnier is the Weasel's automated phone calls, that say you are part of a town forum via phone. Yeah, right.

No, they're not. From where do you get such nonsensical ideas?

Another complete falsehood. The military HATED DADT and believed that it couldn't have ended soon enough. Honestly, who's been telling these lies to you?

To which he will reply with something along the lines of; "I am a staunch supporter of our brave men and women in uniform and I work day and night to ensure that they are well taken care of". Then, he'll walk away as you pick your jaw up off the floor and marvel at what an adept politician Gerry is.

I am a retired Federal employee and participate nearly every day
on Facebook forums for us that are full of contempt for Obamacare.

No, the active duty military did not want DADT repealed and in
fact did not want gays in the military at all. (Four years
active duty (Army) for me) Gays in the military was forced on them.
Look for a declining re-enlistment rate especially in the Marines
and combat arms even with the RIFs. BTW, the openly gay troopettes
are now screaming for the trans-gendered to be included too.

Haven't been able to find out much about the guy, but from what I've seen it sadly looks like he is simply more of the same.

He boldly says on his own website "I cannot stand by and watch politicians like Gerry Connolly pretend that "Medicare-as-we-know-it" is sustainable just because it is 'politically convenient'. Denying the existence of the problem is morally unconscionable and will not only result in our inability to keep our promises to beneficiaries, but will undoubtedly lead to the insolvency of the federal government and the collapse of the nation's economy." Good so far. Now look at what he says in his next paragraph: "Let me be extremely clear: I would make no changes for those in and near retirement! I will, however, support reforms for younger generations that will provide secure, affordable insurance."

Translation-I am willing to default on the promises made to younger Americans because I know it would be political suicide for me to ask older Americans who are more likely to vote to share some of the burden.

My favorite part though is at the end. "The Federal Government imposes large taxes on the residents of the 11th DISTICT OF VIRGINIA (emphasis added), collects these taxes and then subtracts outrageously high administrative costs, and then spreads the remaining revenues between the 50 states and their local governments." SERIOUSLY???

I keep hearing this, get a clue. If you think the liberal moderators are going to sit there and let Obama takes hits you are crazy. They will stop for a break or just outright interupt the Republican whenever Obama looks like he is floundering.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Connolly Truth Squad;

It is my sad duty to report that our existence as a bullwark against right wing lunacy has been stumbled upon by a keen political observer going by the name of Boots. However, this must not dissuade us from continuing with our crusade. Accordingly, you are hereby directed to proceed to the Potomac River where a fleet of jet skis is waiting to transport you into the dreaded Heart of Prince William. Your mission is to interdict and refute with extreme prejudice all erroneous and scurrilous assertions made against our candidate by a renegade colonel named Perkins. The latter is particularly confused in that he believes the shop worn cliches he utters are actually his own original thoughts. While on this mission you are to directed to take whatever measures are necessary to avoid Boots, the Colonel's nummber one groupie. Extreme caution is advised because Boots is a member of the Army Navy Country Club and is therefore presumed to be in possession of at least one deadly short iron. Moreover, our recent intelligence assessments suggest that, in the past, he has treatened to post transcripts of comments made by Truth Squad members on the men's room door of the Dale City VFW. So God's speed Truth Squaders, your nation thanks you.

Boots, it's come to my attention that you may be under
surveillance by a group with suspected ties to Too Fat To Function.
They can usually be spotted very easily due to their amateurish
attempts at imitating Maxwell Smart. Suggest you carry leftovers from
Le Tire Bouchon at all times as this will serve as a detractor should
they attempt your capture. Stay in the cold for now but we have
established a safe house for you at the Fairfax City Weight Watchers
should you need to seek avoidance. Password: Weasel 4-F.

Truth Squaders:

Attached is a recent photo of the Colonel. But beware of getting too close. Remember, no one has ever escaped from his boring rhetoric.

Boots, This is going to be easier than we had anticipated.
Photo interpretation from INSCOM tells us they've mixed up Col's
pic with a Hollywood actor who'se been dead for years. Remember
when we thought the KGB/GRU files were a mess? Analysis recommends
that you take TM's advice about posting at the VFW and disregard
their obvious confusion. We have noted before that the TS'rs do
not know the difference between a men's room and a latrine.
Analysis also recommends doing same at ANCC. Members are notorious
for failing to read the daily bulletin board. If TFTF should
show at the Arlington Clubhouse again make sure M knows that he's only
allowed to be served the Vegetable Platter. PsyOps suspects it
could result in severe psychotic reaction.
