Reston Int'l Center abandoned plaza

There's an interesting little abandoned shopping plaza behind the Reston International Center. There is building that contains a row of kiosk-sized shop spaces. Anyone know what used to be there?

Pizza Hut, Charlie Chiang's, Schlotsky's Deli, not sure what else.

I believe that it is slated for demolition (along with the Chili's?) to make room for some new retail facility.

There used to be a very small movie theater.

It'll all be replaced by a high-rise development called Reston Heights.

It's quite a long hike down to the new Wiehle station and still a pretty long half-mile walk to the RTC subway due in 2017.

This is a different plaza, behind the restaurants. There is a row of 5 to 10 very small store fronts that are completely empty. They are each about the size of a mall kiosk. Just wondering what businesses would have occupied these spots and how this area was once used.

JBG is a POS God awful monopoly that has more control over the community than we as residents do.

Is the rebuilding of the Reston International center on hold? Seems like years when they talked about the project.

The strip also once housed The Hair Company(beauty salon) in late 70's for their second business establishment from the original at Lake Anne Plaza. They then moved to the Hunters Woods Center and well- that died too. Also, All Seasons Tanning used to be in that International Center strip early/mid 80's. Was a terrible location for access and lack of visibility from main roads.

I'm fairly certain the little strip you're asking about always had a 7-11 and a dry cleaners. The 7-11 may have originally been a Highs.

The main plaza used to always be a ghost town, right from the beginning... windy as hell with stores and restaurants that never lasted long. It was like the lower courtyard of Tall Oaks, but even more depressing.

I have fond memories of seeing X-rated movies at the theater with a bunch of friends when I was about 16, and really pissing off the old pervs.

What is the covered plaza attached to the Popeye's? Was it outdoor seating?

It opened as Burger Chef with a covered patio.

There was an earlier thread on FFU about Burger Chef, and some other juvenile delinquent recalled sitting on the patio and flinging their plastic trays out onto Reston Parkway. It was a popular pastime, because you'd see dozens of them all over the hillside and shoulder of the road.
