Fair City Mall

So, what is going on at Fair City Mall? Giant is gone, several of the smaller shops are gone,The Honey Baked Ham place is moving to FFcity. Mama L.'s and Country Buffet moved down toward the Movie theatre and that end of the "mall" is closed off with DSW there --what's going in the open space on the other side? It is a weird place and on the weekends oddly there is never a place to park! Anyone know what is going to go into the empty spaces?

it's quite simple: fairfax city is greedy and charging waaaaaaaaay too much which explains why there have been some spaces empty for many years.

I hate parking there and frustrated drivers aren't looking where they are going most of the time... very dangerous for pedestrians.

That would really suck as traffic is already horrendous in that shopping center. They definitely need to reconfigure the parking to help make it flow more smoothly. Fortunately the intersection of 236 & Pickett has improved vastly since they added the extra lanes. I just cannot see that center handling the extra traffic a BestBuy would bring.

What a CF that is going to be, especially around the Xmas holiday. Simply driving, not just parking, is such a pain and I think that it is a combination of the islands, too many pedestrian crossings, stop signs and mixed parking patterns which make this place a real nightmare even during a normal weekday.

We see a movie at Cinema Arts at least twice a month and my wife and I have breakfast at First Watch most Saturdays (awesome food and service, btw). My daughter's also like $5 Below.

I live near there, well across on the other side where subway, the sushi and game store is. And i would tell you how bad the fucking peds are. I was driving on the CVS waiting for the light and there were these two fucking assshole Koreans (i could onl think they were North Koreans) walking on the fucking road and not on the sidewalks and completely oblivious to the traffic. I was torn between trying to run them over or get out of my car and give them a beat down. I am an immigrant my self but dont walk on the fucking street you stupid fuckers.

why do you speak as if you know something??? That is not the reason at all. Fairfax city is not responsible for the rents in the first place. A little reorganization is need to facilitate some planned improvements! Stop letting worthless dribble come out of your mouth and try thinking before you speak. (Or type in this case).

Then that would explain why you used the term "dribble", when the correct term would have been "drivel"...

It looks to me like they are letting all the tenants' leases run out and then they will do something with the entire property.

If that were the case then why not buy out the leases to expedite the redevelopment. If i were a tenant i would accept it, then move somewhere with an anchor. Most leases for those stores are only 5 years. That shopping center has been a ghost town for longer then that.

I suppose they could/should do that, but maybe the terms of the contracts aren't so simple. Who knows. It was just an observation as most of the businesses relocated. Never saw any "going out of business" sales at any of the stores.

Oh, and just to clarify, the original poster called this Fair City Mall, but I think that part of the area is called Turnpike Plaza. Fair City Mall is behind it.
