i can't believe all these posts about illegals. I thought that capitalism was alive and well in american. The problem my friends is not illegal immigration; rather its an employment problem. not enough whites, italians, irish, englishmen, working the fields picking cotton, paving roads, erecting building structures. So what has to be done in order for the authorities to take notice and why isn't anything done when they are openly standing around ?
Im getting a little sick of this shit too, I don't mind the will to work and the jobs that they acquire(illegally) but it bugs the shit out of me when they start commiting crimes. Just this year there were 3 hit and runs in that very same area and yes I know they are hispanics, because its cheaper to run over a person then to get deported for them.

Earlier this year I was coming back home late at night. I was the first one at the traffic light waiting for the signal to turn green when I heard a loud smash behind me. A large suv crashed in the back of a corolla and came around flying around me and threw the red light. I decided to follow the car and they were desperately trying to lose me. Having a much faster car I was able to catch up to them. They were still trying to lose me by slamming their brakes in hopes that I rear end them, once again better car. I somehow ended up cornering them in an apartment complex parking lot with single entrance. Three guys, very angry, came out of the car yelling and screaming at me , threatening to kill me and trying to pick a fight. I wasted no time going for the 12 gauge in the trunk of my car and all of the sudden the macho drunks became very friendly and the nicest guys in the world, telling me how sorry they are. I ended up calling the cops and they got arrested and released the next day, how do I know? I saw them in their shtty smashed up pathfinder the very next day. The cops(both state and county came out) told me that they were illegal and thank me for extreme measures to help the victim of the hit and run but yet nothing further was done about. A lawyer representing the victim called me and got my story to settle the damages. Why in the fuck was nothing done about this when they had clear proof that they were illegal???????

Oh the only good that came out of this story is that the girl that got hit got full settlement for the damages and I got a call from chief of Fairfax police later on that week thanking me and I was given a personal letter of recommendation which I think helped me get my new job but why is that when all the necessary proof is literally handed to the police, they do absolutely nothing to take measures???

Driving through Annandale was part of the reason why I left in the first place, my dad couldn't stand it any more. I came back and holy crap, what happened? I see people almost collide more than once a day, because some (usually an Asian woman, driving a Toyota) doing something absolutely retarded on the road, such as backing out into traffic on 236, out of a parking lot...into oncoming traffic. This has happened to myself more than once in the past month, and it's never been the same parking lot.

I don't understand how people can stand this. It has become a bit ridiculous.

As far as the issue of illegals goes...I beleive they come here for a couple of reasons...the vast majority (80%), to work hard and to work honestly) and there must be a need or there wouldnt be jobs for them to fill. 15% come here to fill the never ending Amerikan thirst for mind altering drugs. I would suggest we legalize the majority of these drugs thus eliminating this reason to illegally immigrate....5% come here to take advantage of us in any way they can. Well that article although it led with the police saying illegals are responsible for a crime wave gave a semi balanced response from others. Needless to say I do not thnk there are many people who would disagree with deporting any illegal involved in a breaking and entry into a home. Well I would certainly disagree with just deporting someone after they committed a crime. That is not punishment. That is basically letting them off scot-free with a free ride back to their homeland. It's almost like rewarding them. Send their ass to jail first, with an extended sentence for being here illegally. Then deport them, with the provision that if they ever return to the US, they will be jailed again immediately.

I think the idea of just automatically deporting them is crazy.

so true, I had a rental truck once and I was being stared down the whole time while in the area.

Jo momma sounds like a racist, but having hired day laborers in the past, that's exactly how it goes...you show up in a truck and guys chase you to get in... if you've been there before and have a rep as someone who pays out at the end of the day and just wants to do biz, then this effect is at least tripled.

Most other countries are highly selective about whom they allow to live in their country. Nothing wrong with us doing it to.

What the hell are you talking about. I am very concerned with this as well as this is where I DO WORK LEGALLY! These illegals are completely scary just standinga all around. You can't even get into the parking lots b/c they are all standing in the way. I had one bust a full beer bottle of my head and try to wrestle me into my car. Thank God someone came to my rescue. Not quite Vince. When my grandmother came to this country, she came legally, used her own name and legal work papers to obtain lawful employment and wasn't entitled to any benfits or services because immigration then (and now) require the Sponsor pick up that tab.

Illegal aliens however hold their hands out for a plethora of benefits and services. With all that money being doled out to illegal aliens, one has to wonder just what the workers are spending their money on - obviously it is not to "take care of their families."

Illegal aliens on the other hand - who work and collect a regular paycheck with taxes withheld ARE criminals. They have falsified goverment documents and stolen the identity of another. According to the Immigration laws, this is a deportable offense.

It really doesn't take a lot of research to see that:

They are NOT here JUST to work and take care of their families

RAND STUDY SHOWS RELATIVELY LITTLE PUBLIC MONEY SPENT
PROVIDING HEALTH CARE TO UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS

Just a small fraction of America's health care spending is used to provide publicly supported care to the nation's undocumented immigrants, according to a RAND Corporation study issued today.

Overall, immigrants to the United States use relatively few health services, primarily because they are generally healthier than their American-born counterparts, according to the study by the nonprofit research organization.

The report – which appears in the November edition of the journal Health Affairs – estimates that in the United States about $1.1 billion in federal, state and local government funds are spent annually on health care for undocumented immigrants aged 18 to 64. That amounts to an average of $11 in taxes for each U.S. household.

In contrast, a total of $88 billion in government funds were spent on health care for all non-elderly adults in 2000.

“Our findings show a relatively small amount of tax money is spent on health services provided to undocumented immigrants,” said James P. Smith, the RAND chair in Labor Market and Demographic Studies and an author of the report. “Costs will be much higher for educating the children of undocumented immigrants, so that's where debate should center, not on these relatively small health care costs.”

The other authors of the new report are: Dana Goldman, chair and director of health economics at RAND; and Neeraj Sood, an associate economist at RAND.

Smith also was an author of the often-cited National Academy of Science publication on immigration titled “The New Americans.”

The estimates of public spending on medical care for undocumented immigrants are included in a RAND study that examined the patterns of health care use by the foreign-born and those born in the United States. The study provides the most detailed analysis to date of immigrants and their use of health services.

Researchers developed their estimates by analyzing information collected by the Los Angeles Family Neighborhood Study (LAFANS), which interviewed nearly 2,400 English- and Spanish-speaking adults throughout Los Angeles County during 2000 and 2001. Los Angeles has the largest immigrant community in the United States.

Participants in the LAFANS study were asked about their health status, whether they had health insurance, and the type and amount of health care used. The study is unique because it also asks participants about their immigration status – information not collected by other surveys.

Researchers found that non-elderly, adult immigrants – those who are legal and those who are undocumented – made fewer visits to doctors and hospitals than native-born non-elderly adults. Although the foreign-born make up 45 percent of the Los Angeles County's population, they accounted for just 33 percent of the region's health spending in 2000, according to the study.

A large number of foreign-born residents of Los Angeles County had almost no contact with the formal health care system, researchers found. One-quarter of the foreign-born had never had a medical check-up and one in nine had never visited a doctor – twice the rate seen among the native-born. Only 58 percent of undocumented immigrants had visited a doctor in the past year and only 11 percent had been hospitalized in the past two years.

Among undocumented men, just 2 percent had any hospitalizations in the prior year. Half had not seen a doctor in the prior year.

One of every five undocumented women had never received a checkup – four times the rate seen among native-born women – and 7 percent had never seen a physician, compared with 1 percent of native-born women.

“The lower use of medical services by immigrants is driven in part by their lower rates of insurance,” Goldman said. “But the largest factor appears to be due to their being generally healthier than the native-born population.”

Foreign-born people in the LAFANS survey reported fewer health problems, an advantage that was especially pronounced among the undocumented. For example, while 38 percent of the native-born reported having a chronic health condition, only 27 percent of the foreign-born and 19 percent of the undocumented did so.

Researchers say some of the differences may be explained by the younger age of immigrants and a lower rate of diagnosis caused by their limited access to doctors and other health services. But even when those factors are considered, immigrants appear healthier than the native born.

“This suggests that the act of immigrating to the United States favors those who are generally healthier and may discourage those who have chronic health problems,” said study co-author Sood.

Researchers computed estimates of health costs by immigration status by combining information about an individual's use of health services with studies that estimate the cost of individual health services.

The study found that per capita health care spending by foreign-born men in Los Angeles County in 2000 was $1,086 less than by native-born men ($1,540 compared with $2,626), with most of the difference due to lower spending by private and public insurers for the foreign-born. Similar trends were seen among women.

Among the foreign-born, per-person health costs were highest among immigrant citizens. Per- person medical spending for undocumented men and women was 39 percent and 54 percent of the spending of their native-born counterparts.

The authors estimate that total medical costs for all Los Angeles County residents ages 18 to 64 was $13.9 billion in 2000, with private insurers paying a bit more than half the costs and public insurers a little more than one-fourth the costs. The remainder was paid for out of pocket.

Researchers estimate that total medical spending on undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles County was $887 million in 2000 – 6 percent of total costs, although undocumented immigrants comprise 12 percent of the region's residents.

Most of the costs for undocumented immigrants' health care were covered by private insurance or out-of-pocket payments, but an estimate $204 million was for publicly supported services. The study found that native-born residents were more likely to use publicly funded services than foreign-born residents.

In the new RAND study, national estimates of health care costs for the foreign-born were obtained by applying the experiences from Los Angeles County across the nation, where the foreign-born are 13.1 percent of the population and undocumented immigrants are an estimated 3.2 percent of the population.

Of the $429 billion spent on health care nationally for non-elderly adults during 2000, researchers estimate that $37 billion was spent on the foreign born – 8.5 percent of the total costs. The study estimates $6.5 billion was spent on undocumented immigrants, with $1.1 billion coming from publicly supported health services.

Support for the study was provided by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation through its support of the Economic Research Initiative on the Uninsured at the University of Michigan.

California also spends $4 billion a year to educate illegal aliens, $970 million to incarcerate them and about $500 million on other welfare benefits


Virginia tax payers pay $17.6M a year into a Health Care Safety Network which includes illegal aliens. Fairfax County Tax Payers pay $1.7M for Kaiser enrollment, which includes illegal aliens.

The issue has always been at the surface. Now it is rearing its ugly head again because most Americans know that those Job Stimulus dollars will be given to contractors who can bid cheap because they hire illegal aliens, and pocket the difference.

Northern VA contractors are chomping at the bit to get there hands on that $900M (over 2 years) for highway and metro work.

Same old game, different Party and different players. And, if Middle Class America thinks it's going to get a break from taxes, think again. Someone has to pay to bail out the big boys and put all those millions of illegal aliens to work.

Prince William should be an example to the rest of our country for pro-action. If we don't take back our country we will lose it. It's almost as if the media protects the illegal element, by not reporting the truth. When there was a thief robbing seniors and killed one we weren't told he was Hispanic and an illegal, until after he was caught.

I have been robbed repeatedly by an illegal but when I reported it to the police I was told to much happens to me and that they didn't believe this happened, just because they couldn't find where they broke in. I know this kid had a copy of my house key and he took my car keys also. The two police reports where I reported this kid for assault and petit larceny and a threat has disappeared from the system. Another bogus police report was created which I never reported that puts me in a bad light. All of this is illegally being done for a reason and it's FCPD that's breaking the law. When you see others breaking the law, especially lawman, in order to hide the truth or in an attempt to make someone else look unstable, then there must be something worth listening to, if you would put so much on the line. Why would someone go to so much trouble to make someone appear crazy, when they're not, unless their afraid of something?

Our state will be running out of unemployment funds soon because of the many illegals who are receiving these monies. They know they aren't entitled by virture of the fact of the many times the news cameras show up to document the long lines at the offices only to find the illegals running away, instead of staying to ensure their place in the long line and their money. E-verify should be used before these funds are released.

Most of the fast food places in Fairfax, no the USA, are all staffed by illegals, who barely speak English.

I agree, it is not the illegals fault, they are just following the American dream as well, only their expectations are different (getting out of a poor third world county and being able to eat a Big Mac). It is big business that creates the incentive. And politicians stay out of the way because they are getting huge kick backs and campaign funding to look the other way. It's up to us to research the same laws and loopholes to benefit and create an advantage to us just as the illegals have used to their advantage. Loitering laws for instance (and someone please chime in), there has to be something that can be ressurected to help clean up a street corner. Pick an area and focus on that particular area, let's say the 7-eleven at the corner of Hummer and Littler River Turnpike. Flood the Fairfax County's mayor's office with your emails (I am sending one tonight) about your concerns with this area. Remove the incentive and you remove the element.

And a thing about the Koreans. I actually respect and welcome the Koreans (and their snobbishness). They carry themselves well and seem to strive for a higher standard of living. They understand the value of an education and excel in their professions such as business and medical. My wife's optometrist is Korean and she is very professional. This is what we need in Annandale, a community of well-educated and well-maintained people. Let's face it, the illegals are bringing the third world to our doorstep. It looks like Tijuana out there! They don't take pride in themselves and this lower standard is being spread throughout the community. The Koreans are immigrants as well and you don't see them loitering. The Koreans speak their own language but can speak extremely fluent English and do so when talking to me. I respect this as I believe one should speak English when living in America. I recently ate lunch at Squisito Pizza & Pasta in Arundal Mills and to my surprise, the entire place was run by latinos. The boy at the counter barely spoke english and was very abrupt with me and acted perturbed that I was ordering. Some of the other workers were sitting up front lounging about and speaking extremely loud in their native language. None of them looked over 18. The restaurant has provided the incentive because it is very easy for them to turn a good profit by paying them under the table and not providing them with healthcare among other benefits.

I saw a cop actually parked near the 7-11 "No Loitering" sign the other day.

I could agree more. These people hung out 24x7.
