FCPS tracking students with pedometers

This is what FCPS spends grant money on, a problem that is evident to anyone who does not live under a rock?! Get the hell out of the way and let PE teachers teach PE instead of power walking and dance in middle and high school.

I do not agree with the program. My kids are in great shape and I refuse to have them wear a moniter.

Big brother gov't needs to get out of our lives.

Yeah, the link has nice wordign but the underlying actual processing might be somewhat intrusive since it is NOT the equivalent of anonymous sampling.

[for no particularly well-thought-out reason I fear "surveys" that don't guarantee anonymity]

It just looks like a pedometer, it's really a listening device. I want to listen in as you (or the neighbor) fuck your wife.

Nah, the pedometer is only one small part of the study.

Saw the article in the Examiner. Pretty outrageous.

This insane!

What parent would want their child learn about healthy eating habits, good nutrition, and concepts of fitness and health?

Seriously, it is not FCPS's responsibility to promote strategies to increase student activity; and opportunities for students to develop positive social and cooperative skills while participating in physical activities.

Building on current community collaboration and partnership opportunities to extend learning beyond the classroom? Are we goddamn Communist now!

If I want my child to know about healthy nutritional habits and the relationship of nutrition to health, performance, and appearance, I'll be the teacher!

I AM OUTRAGED!

The article also points out why Pat Herrity does not support it and I agree with every point. I hope he can stop the absurdity

I would fuck with them by building some contraption to make it seem like I was walking 50000000 steps each day

Why would the FCPS be tracking students with pedometers? Are they in a weird gang? Are they pushing illegal diet pills? Is there an underground dirty dancing club? Are the student that do not have pedometers in danger of drive-by Rick Rolls? Should I be on the look out for teenage hooligans with sweat bands, Hypercolor t-shirts, and Reebok Pump hi-top sneakers? Who should I call if I see some kids doing the electric slide up and down Main St.? Dear Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven, please help us all!

Anyone know which one of our esteemed school board members thought this was such a good idea that we go so far as to track students with devices? We're a FAT, (sad, but true) society. School lunches are full of processed food, fat and salt. Fast food has taken the place of home cooked meals. Idiot parents think Fruit Roll Ups are healthy snacks. PE teachers teach dance/choreography for an entire semester. We, ok, you, indulge your kids with endless electronic devices. There study done!
