ALEXANDRIA, Va. -
A Herndon man arrested after a Saturday shootout with police was the subject of an investigation into the theft of more than $2 million from condominium and homeowners associations in northern Virginia.
Thirty-eight-year-old Jeffrey Koger is the former chief financial officer of Fairfax-based Koger Management Group, a firm that collected assessments for about 400 associations.
Last year, the Virginia Real Estate Board and the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation identified Koger as "the likely primary culprit" in the embezzlement of association funds. No charges have been filed in that investigation.
Koger is charged with attempted capital murder of a Virginia trooper. He was wounded in the shootout near Springfield Mall and remains at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Koger is also a suspect in three shootings earlier Saturday.
