Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Yeah, it'd be interesting to know what "administrative problem" they are referring to. The owner is a nice guy and was very encouraging of having my business join the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce.
damn it! I used to work at the Galleria and would pass JR' Stockyard all the time but never went in. They need to open back up so I can eat some steak and ribs!
This has been going on since the beginning of 2011.
They could have torn it down and built a whole new place by now.
Does make you wonder what is going on.
A friend said he went by there and he didn't see much of anything going on.
I always liked JR's
You got what you deserve, Jim Wordworth seems to be a nice guy but I've got fired and treated like a miserable 7 years ago with no reason, I was working Illegally at the place. David Winter the kitchen manager is a wise man. Perhaps Mr.Wordsworth has that Republican Nazi Ideology.

So JR's is renovating, when renovating you need to bring everything up to code.
Administrative problems occur when Fairfax Co. is redeveloping an area and they have a bigger plan for that area than a lone standing 30+ year old restaurant. When it comes time for your building inspections the county finds many things wrong and makes it hard for you to get approved. Thus administrative problems have made it impossible for you to continue.

Crockett: Ya know Rico...there's nothing more annoying than when some sawed-off punk runs his mouth with no link or source to his remarks...
Tubbs: You said it, Sonny...this cat here is like the Missing Link or sumthin'...
Phil Collins: ...and I can feel it coming in the air tonight...Oh Lord...
So...it's been years now. Doesn ANYONE know what is going on with the restaurant? The website message hasn't been changed in more than a year...someone who works in a nearby business told me she had heard that when the Capitol One building across the street was renovating, they did something that caused severe damage to the restaurant -- maybe water/sewer? other utilities? undermined structurally? but it's nuts that the restaurant is sitting empty on a huge block of land in the middle of Tysons!
I do know that the owners family is super wealthy and from NC where they owned part of the Panthers football team. Also he sold the JRs Festival Lakes property in Leesburg for a ton of money some time ago.
My guess is that the payoff from waiting and selling the Tyson's property is far greater that paying to keep the restaurant going. The last time I was in there the place needed serious renovations. Better for him to wait for the metro and other development to come in and then cash out.
When I stop by Chics and Wings after work I frequently pass by JR's . Looks like somebody is living upstairs. Car parked out back and some look of activity. Underground gentleman's club for the elite of Tysons?
Is JR still alive. I believe his family had a few restaurants along route 301(ah those childhood trips down south) in the rocky mount north carolina area but they all closed years ago
I am Jim Wordsworth, who along with my wife Karen, have owned and operated J.R's for 41 years, from 1974 to today (1/18/2015). J.R.'s Stockyards Inn originally closed temporarily to repair and replace several utility infrastructure needs. During that exact time of both repair and 35 year land lease renewal period, our friend and landlord passed away. We have had a right of first refusal to purchase the property, and had the desire to do so. Without a lease renewal or the ability to purchase until the Estate was settled, years later, we could not re-open.
We have carried the financial requirements to get to a purchase of the land and building, which we recently accomplished.
We now own the Stockyards land and building, and have re-opened to continue the robust Banquet, Reception, wedding, and meeting business of the past. At this time, we did not want to get back to the 7 day, lunch and dinner requirements of a traditional restaurant. We welcome all of our past loyal customer to now return with their groups andd special events.
Many of our 30, 25, 20, etc. year employees are here to continue to serve you, having continued in our Catering businesses.
I have taken the time to write this explanation, as with the community friendships we have, these few comments above were dismaying.
Further, in our 41 years in the community, and thousands of wonderful young people and seasoned employees, and across all of our businesses, we have "fired" less than 10 employees, all for very just cause.
Respectfully,
Jim

Great news if this is true. I have always claimed to others regardless of your out of date interior JR's had the best steak in town.

Did Mommy and Daddy take you there for confirmation?

Perhaps a little less back in the good old days, but that's about what to expect anywhere with good food and good service. The steaks and the barbecue were both terrific last I had them and lots of times before that. It will be my pleasure to shell out $75 to enjoy them again.

Both my parents are long dead, and I suspect several of my cats are older than you are. You are just a sniveling, snot-nosed little brat who's had at least one too few trips to the woodshed. Bugger off, you miserable little pre-teen creep,
Yeah right be careful Mommy may find out and take your Internet privilage away, then the only Pussy you will be seeing is your cats as if thats a shocker!

Go shoot up, you junkie piece of shit. Maybe the next one will remove you from the game and make this world a better place.
I think maybe we can get our point across without lowering ourselves to Bordain's level ... He seems to think that cussing like a sailor will intimidate people (which does not work). He does this because he has nothing of value to contribute to any conversation. Just sayin!
