FCPD Cop Car Parked on Colchester Rd.
Posted by: commuter ()

I was wondering if anyone else noticed the cop car that is always parked in a driveway on Colchester Rd. I am assuming, obviously, it is owned by a police officer and the purpose is to slow down speeders. Now my question is have any of you seen this car move from it's space? Now before I get a bunch of flame posts from police officers I am not bashing FCPD however if the owner permanently parks his cruiser in his driveway and uses another cruiser that is where I have a problem. It is my understanding that FCPD cruisers cost between $50,000 and $75,000! As a tax payer I don't want to see an empty police cruiser parked in someone's driveway while they use another cruiser, see where the problem is? If you are worried about speeders, sit inside of the same car and catch them on radar instead of wasting tax money on 2 cruisers! Lastly, I drive this road quite often and after the 3rd time you realize that there isn't anyone inside so what's the point?

Because you dont know if anyone is in it or not so you will slow down every time and its accomplished its goal of slowing people down. They leave cruisers around randomly to do it

That's my point, after the 3rd time passing the cruiser you realize there isn't anyone inside so you won't even bother reducing your speed. I have seen empty cruisers on the Fairfax County parkway, however they stay there for what 3 days and they move? Honestly I don't see why we should waste county tax dollars to pay for an abandoned cruiser in someone's driveway while they use another one while on duty. Those things are expensive and with the county's tight budget and the economy why are we paying money for this? I reiterate my comment in my first post I am not against FCPD or bashing the police department.

Commuter, you must be new here...

Because here's the thing...posting this on a public forum will cause no change in this situation. I do hope that your clarity on this issue has improved such that you can focus more clearly on improving the quality of the threads you start.

The Police would not just leave a car in a driveway for ever. It has to be a Officer take home due to his or her assignment. How long is your trip to work and how long do you work a day Commuter? The Officer could work a day shift and go to work after you past and are home again before you return. I Do not know the answer to what the Officer does. But do know FCPD is not a department that does not just give take home cars.

Been wondering the same thing myself. I live in the Colchester Hunt subdivision and pass that thing all the time. I've just assumed that its some kind of speed control measure (not that they really need one after imposing an ADDITIONAL $200 fine for speeding on Colchester Road). This is its most recent incarnation - its been in the same spot before - and then just disappeared after a few months.

FYI, the only place I've ever seen police monitoring traffic on Colchester is at the four-way intersection with Popes Head (in the Korean church lot).

Fairfax County needs more roads like Colchester. You don't need any speed enforcement on that death lane. Anyone who speeds will likely remove themselves from the gene pool...unless of course they are driving a Lotus.

Most people still slow down since all it takes is for them to be in it once. But as far as cost it doesnt cost much. They dont buy cruisers for that. Its either an old cruiser they dont use any more or an extra cruiser from a position that hasnt been filled. They dont usually get new cars unless through seizure

"Death lane"? It's pretty much a straight road. Fairfax Station Road is another story, however.

I liked it better when they trapped there. At least you can kinda see them from a distance away. Where they have the dummy now is something of a blindspot... which is most likely intentional I suppose. Even though I know it's a dummy, it's still gets me everytime ('cause I be smokin' hella blunts).

The car never moves, not one inch. They have done this before at this house. And then once the car was gone, I never saw a cruiser there on or off duty for quite some time.

BTW: I cruise that road at 70, its fun!

Please take a picture of the cruiser and post it here. I'll do the rest. :)

I believe a few officers live in the area. Another car is parked at the corner of Popes Head and Pocol. As for the one parked on Colchester, any one that wants to make a high speed pass will just cruse by first then make the high speed run. Happens every day and more on the weeks ends. As for the extra $200 for speeding signs, the signs do not mean anything without true enforcement. The true enforcement part is what is missing.

I think the owner is reading this because as I was driving down Colchester Rd. today I noticed another unmanned cruiser parked across the street.
