In my experience, you can do nothing. You will be nailed and convicted.

The way traffic court operates in any and most jurisdictions is your are guilty until proven innocent.

If you were truly guilty of the offense, suck it up and pay the fines. Nothing will happen, not even a license suspension. I do suggest, however, that you go ahead and go to court that day. If you do, especially in Fairfax County, your assessed fine will be less than the pre-pay fine that you may choose.

You could ask for the officer's calibrations and get off on a technicality, if he does not have them or they have not been certified within 6 months of the offense, but don't hold your breath.

If you have a poor driving record and are minus several points, it may be a good idea to enroll in and take the defensive driving class. However, It could also be advisable to not take this class until one is popped with a reckless driving charge.

ksh

Hey, how old are you? Not being nosey, but for many young drivers diversion programs are offered for first time offenses. The diversion nonsense is usually a lame ass class that will burn up one of your saturdays. They have private companies that offer these services on the dmv site...The infraction will usually be dropped after the class and a "probation period".

But you were not even in the reckless range so you should be straight...

What location? It seems "unfair," going down a hill. Same thing happened to friend near police academy (off Prosperity near hospital).

You might try talking to the officer (you asked for his business card, right?) and see if he will change charge. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

For sure, sign up for the remediation class in November. Seventy-five dollars. You'll meet my friend and get the positive points, which may mitigate the negative and could, maybe, keep your insurance premium from going up.
