Italian Store in Arlington. It is in the Lyon Village shopping center near the corner of Spout Run/Kirkwood and Lee Highway.

You're right about the pizza sucking around here. I live in Burke and when I want -good- pizza, I drive to either Buon Appetito on Rt. 50 in Chantilly or Tony's NY Pizza near Fair Lakes.

Victor's in Springfield is OK (big step up from Papa Johns/Pizza Hut/Dominos et al), but not as good as the other two.

Italian Store is the best around, it's authentic NY/NJ/Philly style. It's fucking great, actually. But, it's in Arlington, not Fairfax.

Try Santini's in Oakton. It's a close second. I think they have a location out in Herndon or Sterling.

I know what you mean about local pizza, I grew up in the Philly area and was horrified by the local pizza standards when I first moved here. Try Santini's, you'll like it.

Lost Dog Cafe in Westover (on Lee Hwy in Arlington just East of the EFC Metro) has damn good pies. They have lots of "gourmet" pies, but the plain old regular pepperoni, mushroom, etc. are among the best I've had. I'm from NY, so I feel your pain.

Pizza Paradiso is #1, then 2 Amy's is #2, then Il Fornaio is #3 in my opinion. After that, Buon Appetito and this little NY style pizza joint in Fairfax Towne Center are pretty friggin' good too. Check ZAGATs for more details. -§

Armands is okay. I think the crust is too crispy, though.

I forgot about Santini's in Oakton. Greasy as shit, but the crust and sauce rock.

The best part about Tony's is it is run by a family of slicked-back ginnies who give you massive attitude. Authentic NY all the way.

Second Ciro's in Centreville

or San Vito's in the strip mall at Franklin Farm and FFX County Parkway. This is not New York/Jersey pizza, but pretty close to authentic Italian. Nice crust. They did a Hawaiian with kiwi a couple years back, but it seemed to drop off the menu.

AWESOME hand tossed pizzas. The best I have ever had.

It has a sports bar on the second level, but seriously, the pizza is amazing.

I'll second Rubinos at the Clocktower shopping center in Herndon. I moved down here from NY 3 years ago and its one of my favorite places to eat. They have a large menu and everything is great. People are friendly too with free refills(those are important to me!!)

Re: Bugsy's - I used to live in OT and have eaten a few tons of Bugsy's pizza. It's good Chicago-style pizza, and the Penalty Box upstairs rocks, but the pizza itself doesn't have anything to do with "great NY-style" pizza.

Re: Ledo's - The one in Glover Park is an acceptable substitute for Papa John's. The one in Falls Church is on par with a pile of dog feces. The other locations mentioned must be completely different to be even mentioned in the same breath as real pizza.

Re: Pizzeria Paradso - I went to the one in Dupont Circle and thought it was very good but not deserving of the gushing accolades it gets. I assume the one in Georgetown is about the same. Worth trying if you go at a time when the wait is minimal.

That's f-d up. I like Bugsy's pizza, but it NOTHING like a real NY pie. It's more like Pizza Hut if Pizza Hut was good.

Let's stop all this silliness.

Pizza Hut has the best tasting pizza. (How they hire all those Italian people amazes me). Just watch the advertising tricks manipulating the prices--especially the online coupons and also the delivered coupons.

Red Baron is best store-bought pizza (individual pan pizza). Very easy to prepare; very tasty. New method of microwaving the pie.

And you cannot beat Uno's Chicago pizza--especially their daily lunch specials. What a deal. Especially with the French onion soup.

Okay, let's move on to more important topics: three best takeout or delivery services; three WORSE takeout or delivery services.

;-)

Having just returned from CT (and having a pizza there), I can tell you that pizza from New England is definately BETTER than most here!

That said, I call Victors (Rolling and OKM Rds.) for pizza. Sometimes if I am in the mood for a different pizza, I will get a baked spaghetti pizza from Malek's in Springfield Plaza (OKM Rd), or a Taco Cha-Cha pizza from Generous Georges on Duke.

Sounds like you got a bad one (we had that once -- very overcooked. I bitched and they happily gave us a free one and a $5 coupon). They're a little more expensive than most places but the toppings are all very fresh and the pizzas taste awesome (esp. the Santa Fe and ZBQ). They can be a bit light on sauce but if you ask for extra it's fine, and they don't drip with grease like a lot of places. That said, I think we're getting pizza from Victor's (OKM/Rolling) tonight.

Forget trying to find Real pizza in Northern Virginia. Save that dream for when you head home and hit Little Italy. Bazzanos was once owned by the Mansy family and had wonderful pizza, back in the day. I practically grew up in that joint. Very, very fond memories of family times together at Bazzanos when everyone was still on this side of heaven.

Bottom line everybody: Make everyday count regardless of where you gather with family & friends, enjoy them while you have them here. My grandmother used to tell me, "Life really is just a vapor."
I never understood what she meant until she was gone. I never even knew she was quoting the Bible to me till several years ago, LOL. She had a way of keeping it all real simple, where church just puts me to sleep and seems so irrelevant. Almost as irrelevant as the pizza you can get here in Northern Virginia nowadays.

Have a heart. Pizza parlors are a staple in NY. Nobody's going to rag on you if you have to ask around where to find good barbque in NY. (It can be done, but you'll have to work at it.)

Tony's in Manassas is obviously not in Fairfax Co, but the pizza is the real deal. Worth the trip.

Anybody know where I can find a good steakhouse in Fairfax of Prince William?

What about a hot dog stand? Please dont mention Costco.

Or a diner type restaurant that serves breakfast all times of the day.

Hands down Lil' Joes in Centreville. It doesn't get any better whatsoever. The best NY style I have had. I have lived in Boston and New York, this is the best pie.

Tony's in Fair Lakes is the best around. I've been told that nothing here will be like New Jersey or New York pizza because the water around here is too different. I've had good pizza in Philly and their tap water tastes terrible.

Mama Lucia's in Fairfax City (Fair City Mall) is a close to NY pizza as you can get. By the slice too.

You'd like Pomodoro's at Fairfax Towne Center, Ciro's in Centreville, and Tony's in Fair Lakes (I think the owners of Ciro's, Tony's in Fair Lakes and Tony's in Manassas are all related). I lived in NY and NJ for a lotta years and these are the ones my husband and I have found to be the closest in the 10 yrs we've lived in Virginia.

Of course, now I want to try some of the others listed here. Live and learn.

Hope this helps!

I just ate lunch at 2 Amy's today- the place is great. Ranks right up there with Pizza Paradiso in terms of quality, and I like the busy/boisterous atmosphere. We split 2 pies, one with meatballs and pecorino, and the other with roasted peppers and italian salami. Excellent stuff, I highly recommend this place.

Bertucci's is good. There's one hidden behind the Wendy's on Elden St in Herndon next to the Kohl's, and another one is opening in Ashburn in a week or so.

I used to eat alot of pizza but then my heart started looking like this. Look at that dying muscle. So, I stopped eating pizza. Now, I only eat fettucini alfredo. All day long. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Rather than stop eating pizza you should perform Vigorous excerises three times a week for at least 30 minutes a session. Go jogging, Dance dance revolution ride a bike, or bang your Girlfriend. Its all Excerxise andits better for you than CREAMY Fettucini.
