Grand Village - we hardly knew ya!

Grand Village, a Korean grocery store that opened not that long ago in Sully Station to replace the never-busy Safeway that had been there for 20ish years, is closing its doors.

It, too, was never busy. Great market research, guys!

In any case, for the NEXT resident of that spot - do NOT open a grocery store!

Horrible, non-busy fring of neighborhood location. Maybe open something for teenyboppers or something.

But NOT a grocery store!

Perhaps it was because the department of health inspector broke down on Westfields Blvd and followed his nose to the stench.

> why do all these asian grocery stores stink? ...

They don't.

Instead, they smell like the (typically huge variety of) items they sell.

And you're simply not used to it.

And I'm seriously not kidding about that.

Go try out a durian fruit. Sprinkle some fish sauce on your stir-fry. Munch a squid tentacle (or better yet, a DRIED squid tentacle).

Different than the way-expensive pablum at Giant?

For sure.

But not stinky.

Yum.

[yeah, yeah, yeah, it really IS stinky - have to admit - but yum none-the-less. Especially Stinky Tofu which is named that because even Asians think it's stinky.]

Probably no sale - Grand Vilage The Failure is owned by the same folks who owned the uber-successful Grand Mart over at Centreville Square - probably just take back all their stuff.

Sure would like to know how those guys could get it SO wrong with Grand Village - less than a year lifetime.

It's not that complicated really. There is a massive asian market off metroplex by Bungalows and there's another massive asian market by Rt. 28 and Rt. 29.

Why would we need a third asian market, that is smaller than either of its neighbors, located effectively between the other two?

Fuck. They'd be better off remodeling it and making half of the store an Outback and the other half a Red Lobster. Low-rent food in an area within walking distance of two major neighborhoods and a ton of parking to support both.
