Welcome to 5 months ago. This information was actually uncovered by Pat Herrity in his 11th hour of desperation of his campaign against Keith Fimian. I guess Gerry will now just recycle it and make it appear as though he dug it up and took credit for it. I forget how much money Mr. Herrity spent to collect this information, but I know it was a tidy sum.

Now, an open question to all of you. When you were between the ages of 18 and 23, how many fights did you get into when you were in college? How many times did you drive drunk? How many times did you get into a car with another individual who had a lot to drink? See, as youngsters, this is a learning pattern for us. I don't feel it has any relevance in this campaign at all. Now, if this had happened 5 years ago with Keith Fimian, I'd probably be deeply concerned.

This drives me nuts. You apparently don't like Connolly, yet don't want to vote for Fimian because that would be throwing a vote for "the crap"? (By the way, what crap?) It's your right to do what you want, but it sounds like you have a sincere interest in politics and the future of this country. Don't blow off your vote even if it means holding your nose and voting for the better smelling of (what you may find to be) two putrid candidates. Though I hate to say it, Fimian is not a proven politician. On the other hand, we know Connolly sucks as a politician and the old dog is not likely to learn a new approach. Fimian, however, could turn out to be a great congressman who supports at some interests important to the majority of Virginia.

I agree, and in the end I'll likely go as I haven't missed a vote I was eligible for since I was 18, but I'll research any other candidates (I doubt those are the only two). But voting for the sake of doing it isn't any more right than declining to throw a vote to someone you don't believe represents you. That is why I vote in primaries, where I cast support for someone I believe represents me and the best interests of my congressional district. I understand the other side of the argument, but I'm not one who is apathetic and if I don't vote for one of the two lead candidates it will be because of a thoughtful decision.

Many intelligent people who would be true, positive change catalysts don't want a 35-year-old charge or some dumb party pic paraded in front of the public, their families, and coworkers. Our tabloid society prevents the very people we want and need to run the show from doing so. That's why I discount most of these bullshit accounts... we want regular, reasoned people to represent us yet get pissed if some decades-old mistake that any of us probably did too surfaces. We get the product of our unreasonable expectations, choosing incompetent career politicians instead of the reasoned and intelligent everyman because of normal human flaws. Thank goodness for the occasional gems that can rise above all of that and succeed despite flaws, Mark Warner comes to mind.

Our media blows stupid stuff like that out of proportion because that is what consumers of media are drawn to. Look at the IL senate race. One guy held a leadership position in his family bank and admitted to having knowledge of illegal mob activities of customers he was loaning money to. The other was former military that embellished his military record. Erase the party affiliation and which would you choose on the face of that? The banker is ahead in the polls. We get who we vote in and are pissed at the long-term consequences.

I guess the relevance of this depends on a couple of things. What kind of assault are we talking about? If he popped a guy in a bar, that's one thing. If he popped a girlfriend in the face, that's another. And were there any efforts on his campaign's part to hide this from the public?

As for the chastising of the press for covering this, it comes with being a politician. If you don't want your personal life exposed, don't run. And for historical context, Jefferson and Hamilton used to go after each other with mostly baseless accusations through their own newspapers, so this is tame by comparison.

Um, I think the intent was to point out that when you're young, you many not think as logically as when you're a mature adult. Fights can and do happen. People don't always make the best / right judgments when they're young.

This news didn't have any impact on Keith Fimian winning the primary election over Pat Herrity. It certainly won't have any effect on Connolly gaining points over Fimian. All I care about is how under-served I've felt under Gerry Connolly for the past 2 years, and that has a big influence on how I'll vote. Also, looking at the voting records of Gerry Connolly provides a big impact, too.

It happpened. I remember reading about it in the Fairfax Journal a few years ago. Except I believe it never went to court. As a professional courtesy, the tickets were nulled before being entered into the computer. If not for a whistle blower in the police department the story would have been buried. Connolly was extremely lucky, not Ted Kennedy lucky, but similar. The incident might have ended his political career.

The $12.00 per hour is paid for those who go door-to-door passing out flyers. I suspect posting on blogs yields a more tidy sum because you can reach a wider audience on a forum or blog in much less time.

Bludgeoning somebody so bad they had to go to the hospital over a squirt gun fight is a little different than missing a shift on a turn, chirping your tires and scraping somebody's Explorer. There was no alcohol involved and Connolly was on his way to a meeting in the middle of a morning.

Connolly didn't get any special treatment and the case was heard in PWC due conflict of interest in Fairfax county. The Prince William county judge found no reason to charge him.

He got at the time the lawyer for the police association to represent him. Instead of having the Virginia State Police investigate the Felony Hit & Run because the supposed target of the investigation was the chairman of the BOS, they had a rookie patrol officer investigate the case. This among other reasons is why the Police Dept. did not have its first female police chief and why a certain someone hates the fuzz so much.

This of course s just a totally hypothetical situation for entertainment purposes and is not presented as fact but one of many plausible scenarios.

Keith Fimian currently has $1 million in cash on hand (or did) going into the final month of the campaign. The voters will eventually see their share of commercials to counter the "fibs" that Gerry Connolly has been so hard and desperately trying to utilize in his commercials in attempts to make Fimian look bad. That, along with a few more debates ought to allow the voters to get a chance to see what kind of people these candidates are.

P.S. - If Keith is such a bad man, how come he's been able to raise so much cash for his campaign? None of his donations came from labor unions or Islamic radical groups, either. That alone, is something to think about.

As I've said in other responses above, it's all about learning a lesson in life. Most of us do that between the ages of 18 and 23. I believe I was hammered on my response, too. I guess everyone thinks they were too good in their early 20s to get into trouble?

To get thirty days in jail Fimian must of really fucked up or this wasn't his first assault charge. I'm guessing there maybe more previous assault charges and that's why the judge ordered thirty days to teach Fimian to stop the pattern.

And for the record I have never spent thirty days in jail for anything and I don't think many people in Fairfax County have!

You left out Bob Filner, Democratic Chair of the House Veteran's Affairs Committee who assaulted an airport worker three years ago. If Democrats find assaults so outrageous and disqualifying for office, why are these people still among their ranks? Why is a sexual assaulter like David Wu still a member?

The case with Moran and his wife sounds like a genuine domestic violence case. I'm no fan of Moran and won't defend him on that.

The case of the kid he grabbed and shook is something else according to people I know who used to spend a lot of time at that rec center. According to them, the kids a shit, his parents are shittier and Moran gave him a little yell and shake after the kid got smart and tried to lamely rob him. The parents pushed hard about the incident in a typical ambulance chaser fashion.

I'm not surprised that The Washington Post would try to do what they could to discredit Keith and try one last attempt to make Gerry look good during these last few weeks. The VT victim commercial Connolly ran this week was absolutely misleading. It directly relates the VA Tech shooter to the "gun show loophole" when the two had nothing to do with each other. He bought all of his guns legally from a regular gun shop.

Did Connolly propose any legislation while he was in office to require private, non-dealer purchases of firearms at gun shows to require background checks (purchases from dealers already do in case you didn't know)? If not, he should shut the fuck up and quit misleading the public with his idiotic attempts to drum up Democrat and independent voter support with the gun show dog whistle. At least tell the truth about an issue, and don't bring up issues you did absolutely nothing about while you were in office.
