Honolulu resident visiting Fairfax got reckless driving ticket(82 in 55). what to do now?

my friend from Honolulu came to this area for a reunion.

He was pulled over for doing 82mph in 55mph zone on I-66 just prior to the Mannassa line.

The ticket stated that he must appear in person on court date to answer the
reckless driving charge.

The only traffic ticket he ever got in his entire 42 years was a broken
turn signal.(which he got in Hawaii when he was only 18)

He's currently back in Honolulu. The court date is beginning of September.

QUESTIONS:

(1)
Is his only alternative to buy a $720 ticket and come back here? (the cheapest
available for those dates)

(2) should he hire a local traffic lawyer?

(3) will Virginia send the ticket information to the State of Hawaii?

(4) how are out-of-state(or foreign tourists) usually treated when they get reckless driving tickets for doing 80mph+ ???

THANKS so much for any info! :)

I'd just ignore the ticket... they will either try him in his absence(guilty)or issue a bench warrant. The warrant will go away after a couple years and I doubt VA DMV shares their information with Hawaii.

orrrr he can contact the officer/trooper again and tell him the situation. Maybe that officer will try to get it reduced to just speeding and he can pre-pay

I am by no means a fan of speeding tickets but anytime you go 20 mph over the limit you are just asking for it. He should get himself in touch with a local lawyer and see about letting the lawyer handle it.
Since it is actually a criminal charge he would be very stupid to ignore it.
There is no doubt a fail to appear warrant would be issued at the very least.
After that good luck getting any kind of job that requires a criminal background check.

Ditto everything hold em said. This is an extremely serious matter and your friend really needs to show up attended by a good attorney. He's facing a criminal record, along with possible jail time.
