47 year old man killed by his cellmate on July 3. 47 year old was serving a life sentence for 1st degree murder. Lars Hanson fits this profile. Was it Lars? Department of Corrections has yet to reveal any names yet. Why? Why is this such a secret? Was Lars murdered by a prison guard? Lars did a bad mistake but this is bullshit. We need answers. I am not saying this is Lars who was killed but Red Onion has about 900 inmates of all differnt ages and he is 47 and is serving a life sentence so there is a good chance it is him and it sucks because he was a good kid growing up and just made some mistakes in his early adult life.

Thank you. It was not Lars which is great news. VA Corrections should be more tranparent on murdered inmates. Yes they reported inmate 'killed by cellmate". Where were the guards during this murder? They had to have heard vsome sort of struggle. All lives matter, even murderers and rapists and blacks, and whites, spanish,asian, arab etc.

I thought Red Onion is a supermax. Since when do you have cellmates in supermax? It's supposed to be one person per cell on 23 & 1.

That is what I thought also. Something stinks here. A guard could have killed this inmate and that is why there is no information about it other than we know someone died there because the hospital has to report it.

2 weeks have passed and no press release on the inmates names. I am so mad I am going to call Dept. of Corrections and find out who was killed and why. Does anyone know the names? I am concerned it could be Lars Hanson. He is 47 and there are probably not that many 47 year olds there. He was also in general population due to his good behavior over the years.

Over 3 weeks have passed and we still do not have any names made public. Who died and why? Why is this such a secret? We pay for our prisons and have a right to know.

I don't know how many stories should we see and hear of peoples get murdered in jails, and every time there is something strange behind all this. It was great news that it's not Lars Hanson. But how many guys there should be killed before they change something in this system. And it would be great to access all pieces of information about a prisoner not to guess who was the guy that was murdered and many other cases were you have to wait for the official information that comes very slow like there is cdcr inmate locator that maintains a centralized database about each and every inmate held in California's jails.
