Water is tasting strange...

I live near where Braddock and Columbia Pike meet and have noticed that in the last few weeks the water has taken on a bit of an antiseptic / chlorinated taste. Have my years of dipping Copenhagen caught up with me and my taste buds are shot, or does anyone else in the area notice it?

I don't drink it straight from the sink. I drink it from the water dispenser on the fridge. But it still has been tasting weird.

I have filters as well, but during certain times of the year, the county does add extra chemicals to the water.

Here, directly from the FCWA:

Quote

Fairfax Water utilizes two types of chlorine, free chlorine and chloramines (chlorine and ammonia mixture). Chloramines are normally used June - March, and free chlorine is generally used April - June. Free chlorine and chloramine dechlorination is performed differently.

Try to change your filter for the water dispenser. If that doesn't work then I am not quite sure what's up.

This may be the problem:
Why does my water sometimes have a chlorine taste and odor?
During the months of April, May, and June, you may notice the taste and odor of chlorine in your water. That is because, during this time, we use free chlorine instead of the less noticeable combined chlorine (chloramines). Free chlorine pro- vides the best method of disinfec- tion during the water main flushing done each spring to maintain a high level of water quality. Keeping an open container of drinking water in the refrigerator allows the chlo- rine to dissipate, which usually improves the taste of the water. Change the water in your refriger- ated container weekly.

Or it could be because of this:

Valve Operation Program

Fairfax Water will begin a valve operation program beginning April 5, 2010. The purpose of the program is to exercise main line valves throughout the distribution system to assure reliable operation and maintain water quality. The American Water Works Association recommends operation of main line valves periodically to prevent build up of deposits which may render the valve inoperable.

A main line valve is a valve which is installed at certain points in the water main system, usually at an intersection where the main may run in different directions or where access needs to be controlled remotely as with a fire hydrant. The valves provide a means of isolating small lengths of main in the event of a necessary shut down for emergencies or maintenance. The valves are generally in the street located under small lids covering valve boxes, usually about 6 inches in diameter. The program will provide an opportunity to check the condition of the valve box, as well as all aspects of valve operation.

During this program, crews will exercise the valves by operating the valve through a full cycle and returning it to its normal position. Where valves are exercised, a fire hydrant will be flowed to ensure that the water in the mains will remain clear. All care will be taken to minimize any potential impact on water quality. Even with these precautions, some discolored water is possible. Flushing may result in some temporary discoloration and the presence of sediment in your water. These conditions are not harmful and should be of short duration.

If you have questions about this program or the work being conducted in your area, you may call Customer Service any time of the day or night at 703-698-5613, TTY 711.

Tap water in other municipalities is fine, NYC for example. The water here in Fairfax has a funny color, smell and it tastes like liquid aluminium.

I discovered a new grip for my nightly "deposit" into the Kingdom of Kleenex, and I can't stop jerking off. My god, it's like heroin. I'm doing it at least 20 times a day. All my extra loads are probably what you're tasting in the water. Sorry about that.

Yes the CC is alive and well. He makes comments that are inappropriate. So far has not touched anyone. He is not the reason we all go there. It's because of the coaching. They are the best! That's why we put up with the obnoxious BC and the CC. The coaches are what makes the team what they are. As for me, I would go to anywhere those coaches go as long as my daughter does gym.

Try flushing before you drink. Hint: it's not *supposed* to be yellow.

The water works folks don't like this to be known but I will reveal the spunky taste you are experiencing. Semen is very difficult to filter from the water and most is not removed. It's getting warmer out, people are friskier, and sowing their proverbial oats. Your tasting spunk, dude. It won't hurt you.
