Over 50 global manufacturing companies have left or are actively working to leave China before the end of this year. These companies account for over $500 billion in economic output for China.

Though other factors were involved, the increasing access of women to higher education and then to the workforce was key. Since that time, the LFPR has been declining as the economy folded, boomers began to retire, and net immigration stagnated. It will continue declining well into the next decade.

Actually the rate for older people has increased since the ~1990s. Most of the reduction has been at the younger end. To a large extent because less experience workers have been displaced by cheap immigrant/illegal labor (and a higher in-school rate as an indirect result).




But then in absolute terms they're dying off. Like you soon. So...

Trump's tariffs are making it impossible for companies to know where to build their next factory.

1) If you build it in China or Mexico, and tariffs go through the roof, you're screwed.

2) If you build it in the United States to duck the tariffs, and then they go away, a competitor will open their factory in Mexico/China and undercut you on price at every turn.

The end result... Companies aren't building as many factories, and industrial output is slowing. Companies simply don't know how or where to place bets, so they aren't.

And unfortunately, Trump can't let the China thing go because:

a. He'd publicly lose a big fight.
b. Without his trade wars, Interest Rates would go up, which would be bad for his family business.

Bush had already set up the recovery and it took place shortly after Obama took over. Bush did the work and Obama took credit for it.

Bush did nothing. House Dems forced him into sending out checks in 2008, but it was too
little and too poorly designed. Otherwise, 43 just stumbled his way out of town, reviled as one of the worst Presidents ever.

In the end, Albania was the only place where Bush-43 was popular. Trump might well end up even worse off than that.
