Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau Child Abuse Squad arrested Rolly Hammond, 38, of Burke, last night and charged him with three counts of aggravated sexual battery, one count of forcible sodomy and one count of indecent liberties by a custodian.

Yesterday we were contacted along with Child Protective Services after a child disclosed that they had been inappropriately touched by Hammond. This investigation led to an additional juvenile being identified as a victim who had been abused for several years by Hammond.

Hammond is a daycare worker with the Department of Family Services School Age Child Care (SACC) program based at West Springfield Elementary School in Springfield. Detectives would like to hear from anyone who is concerned their child may have had inappropriate contact with Hammond.

It happens in black and Hispanic communities too and probably more often. It’s just that in those communities, either a) there are no parents/responsible adults involved enough to identify something is wrong and report it, or b) it’s more deeply rooted within their culture such that it’s seen as normal for sex things to start when the kid is 8 years old.
