I was furloughed once for 6 weeks. My fallback resource was my savings account. It amazes me when someone who has been in the workforce for over 5 years has nothing in savings.

You're not wrong, but apparently it's the norm for too many folks, even those making decent money. People living close to the edge, spending it all on toys and luxuries, not saving at all. Scary.
