Aerial Gondola from Georgetown to Rosslyn

It can transport 6500 folks an hour. It's a 4 minute ride. Maybe it can revive the Arlington streetcar. Would any Fairfax residents want to ride this?

An aerial gondola between Arlington and Georgetown would make a great target for terrorists

If the metro ran to Georgetown a gondola would not be needed. Arlington already has metro. It was really dumb to not put a metro station in the heart of Georgetown. Not having metro in Georgetown really promotes DUI violations.

They had the option to put Metro in Georgetown back in the 70s, but the residents there vetoed it.

With Amazon money, Arlington should build 6 or 7 gondolas. Maybe one going over Arlington Cemetery and Iwo Jima for tourists.

Nothing like putting your father in the ground and looking up to see a bunch of tourists taking your photo from a gondola passing overhead.

It's a myth that Georgetown residents vetoed the idea of a Metro stop. Among the many sites that make the case for debunking the claim: https://georgetownmetropolitan.com/2011/01/24/all-you-need-to-know-about-the-georgetown-metro-stop/

Bottom line is that Metro itself wasn't interested because of the geography/topography and the lack of commuters going to Georgetown at the time.

Foggy Bottom and Rosslyn Metros are like a mile each to Wisconsin and M St.

Walking across Key Bridge is a nice view.

If it is raining or you are too fat, call Uber and STFU.

The story that Georgetown residents opposed Metro didn't start recently. I remember hearing it long before Metro opened its line to Ballston. The Metrorail system as it existed in 2000 was as much a reflection of historical accidents as it was a reflection of demographics and construction difficulties. One of those accidents was who was lobbying for and against routes when the map was being drawn. Resident opposition may not have been what kept Metro out, but resident support might have gotten Metro in.

Rosslyn when Metro was first being planned was a very different place than it is today. It could have accommodated construction options which would have made a station in Georgetown possible. Plus a station in Georgetown would not have necessarily meant a station in the center of Georgetown.

Georgetown residents (white) did not want blacks from elsewhere in the city destroying their calm and bringing crime. Of course they could not come out and say it, but this is the real reason. The whole "we don't want a construction disruption" was just the cover story.

Trolley service should be re-opened over the P Street and Q Street bridges to connect with DuPont Circle. Problem solved.
