Zippy chance Cerrato "resigned". My guess is he was either going to be shitcanned by the upcoming administration or take the more graceful resignation route.
Either way he's gone.

About damn time.

So here is pure conjecture. Cowher is probably going to Carolina. Gruden is locked in to MNF. That leaves Shanahan and Holmgren.

The case for Holmgren:

- Sherm Lewis was his OC in Green Bay
- Zorn was his QB coach in Seattle
- The Skins are currently running Holmgren's offense
- Holmgren has said he wants to coach in the NFC East
- Holmgren is on record for saying that he doesn't like the way the Skins - specifically Cerrato - treated Zorn.
- Holmgren is in serious discussions with Cleveland, which could be forcing Snyder's hand.

The case for Shanahan:

- Snyder has met twice with him.
- LaVar has been on WJFK saying that Shanahan is a "done deal."

I may be missing something related to Shanahan here, but my gut is telling me that Holmgren is the guy. Shanahan would seem to be a better fit for Dallas. He has the "star fucker" personality that Jerry Jones likes. Dallas is a lot closer to his home in Colorado than DC is. And both he and Tony Romo QB'd at Eastern Illinois University.

Holmgren seems pretty locked into Cleveland at this point, so I'm going with Shanahan.

That would be a shame. Holmgren has demonstrated that he can do more with less. I'm not sure Shanahan can compete in the NFC East without a guy like Elway as QB.

What worries me about both is "joe Gibbs Syndrome". Being away from football for a few years can set you back as much as a player would be.
It will be a daunting task for anyone coming in here.

Holmgren and Shanahan haven't been gone that long compared to what happened with Gibbs. Gibbs heyday was before the salary cap and when most teams didn't have regimented off-season conditioning programs. I also think Gibbs health played a role in Gibbs 2.0 not being so great.

My concern with Shanahan over Holmgren is that Shanahan never won a playoff game without Elway. For all his success with the running game, he couldn't do much with game-management QBs when it came to big games. The AFC West was also pretty sad for much of the 2000s, so many of those playoff appearances that did occur probably wouldn't have in a more competitive conference, like the NFC East.

Holmgren, on the other hand, took two pitiful teams and turned them into Super Bowl-caliber teams with QBs no one else wanted when he brought them in. I'm not a fan of Holmgren the GM, but Holmgren the GM is better than Danny Boy and Vinny the GM.

It looks like Bruce Allen is coming to the skins. Seeing as how he is linked to Gruden, it wouldn't surprise me to see Chucky or one of his progeny come to DC. They may give Zorn one more year to turn it around and bring in Gruden in 2011.

They've probably already approached some coaches to replace Zorn but one of the conditions was to get a new GM. The other possibility is that Vinny slipped up and accidentally won the racquetball match with Dan.

Get rid of Dan.

He is and will always be the main problem with the team.

However, one NFL source told the Post that when Shanahan spoke with the Buffalo Bills last month about their coaching job, Allen was to be included in the package.

Shanahan's record with John Elway:

.734 win percentage and two Super Bowl wins.

Shanahan's record without John Elway:

.569 win percentage and no....NO....playoff wins.

In the first four seasons after Elway left, Shanahan's record was:

6-10
11-5 (made playoffs but lost)
8-8
9-7

Only one playoff appearance during that time.

Does anyone think that if Shanahan comes to DC and has the same four years, Danny Boy won't fire him?

I fired that loser Mike Shannahan and enjoyed it.
