Increase the Speed on the Greenway to 90mph!

The Greenway is a straight highway. Three lanes wide. Let's increase the speed to 90mph.

It will solve all sort of issues and people will get their money's worth. It's a private road so they should be able to raise the speed.

Are even better make the road variable speed. When there is very little traffic have digital speed limit signs that change to 90mph.

They'd have to triple hospital capacity in Loudoun County. Lots of new morgue space would be needed as well. Not that many of those losers would be missed.

This isn't the 1970s. Get with the times.

The effective speed limit is already 80. I routinely pass troopers running radar in the median in the high 70's and they don't blink an eye.

The issue is the occasional snowflake out there in the minivans. Their husbands often get them an EZPass and they have to get from Broadlands to the Target in the middle of the day. They are already driving scared out there - in the left lane, while texting and tweeting and shit.

That's exactly the issue, the left lane hogs. It's the difference in speed that kills. 90 mph is the norm out west where the speed limits are 80. Just about any car made in the last 10 years will comfortably cruise at 100 mph. Even my adaptive cruise control works up til 90.

I wonder what the speeds would be if they set the limit at 90mph. I mean...surely everyone would drive 90, right?

For the most part people are reasonable and will only drive what feels safe, regardless of the limit. 495 feels safe at 70 - 75 so that's what people drive. In Germany most people don't go much faster than 100 mph and that's on an empty highway with no limits.

At 90 most people would stick closer to the PSL depending on the road. This is all wishful thinking, VA is not a speed friendly state, going just 80 MPH is a class 1 misdemeanor.

Remember when a Virginia Senator wanted to make the use of cruise controls illegal, calling them "fiscally injurious"?

Yes, but a huge part of "what you are comfortable with" is made up of your overall driving ability and your sled.

I've had a 911-R up to 187mph on a clear, sunny day. If I'm 18 with 2 years of driving experience, driving a dump truck in the rain...I probably will struggle to keep the minimum speed.

90 sounds very reasonable to me in light traffic. They could have digital speed limit sign to up the speed to 90 mph on clear days. Down to 70 in heavy traffic.

I'm kind ok with this change. Would surely eliminate many douchebags in this area over a period of time. NoVA way of thinning the herd.

I always do 90 on that goddamn road. If I"m paying that much for the toll, I'm going as fucking fast as I want.
