White mother-of-three sentenced for making up violent kidnapping and gang rape

'I don't want to die before I reach 30': Mother-of-three, 27, who concocted a gang-rape story is sentenced to prison after escape attempt - as she blames her crimes on addiction
A mother-of-three from Michigan who made up a fake story about a violent kidnapping and gang rape, and later tried to escape from custody, has been sentenced to prison.
Leiha Ann-Sue Artman appeared in Muskegon County Court on January 4, which coincided with her 27th birthday, and was handed a sentence of 13 months to four years after pleading guilty to a charge of resisting and obstructing police.
When given a chance to speak, Artman told the presiding judge that her substance abuse problem was to blame for her history of wrongdoings and admitted that she needs 'professional help' to stop her life from spiraling out of control.
'I don't want to die before I reach 30,' she said in court, as Mlive.com first reported.
To which Muskegon County Circuit Judge Annette Smedley replied: 'Ms. Artman, I sure hope this is the last time.'
In March 2016, Artman claimed she was abducted when a group of four black men stopped to ask her for directions while she stood in the driveway of her home in Montague.
The then-26-year-old woman said the men threw her in the trunk of their car, beat her up and sexually assaulted her at an unknown location.
During the two days she was missing, her boyfriend received photographs of her in which she appeared gagged, bound and bleeding from the head.
The kidnapping story turned out to have been fabricated, and in October 2016 Artman was sentenced to one year behind bars after admitting to one count of making a false report of a felony.
At first, Artman escaped having to spend any of her sentence in an actual prison, when she was immediately put into a 'swift and sure' intensive probation program, and then a residential jail alternative program.
But she violated the terms of her probation on October 1, 2017, when she went missing from her residential program.
A warrant was issued for her arrest, and she was caught on or before October 10, when jail corrections officers took her to Mercy Health Partners to be 'treated and examined.
'It's alleged that while at the hospital, she attempted to flee the custody of the deputies who transported her,' Muskegon County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Maat told MLive.com.
Artman ran out onto the street, but she was pursued by deputies who quickly caught her.
Since her conviction, authorities said a warrant has been issued for Artman's arrest on three other occasions, when she violated the terms of her parole.
The first happened in June 20, 2017, after she used alcohol and cocaine on two separate occasions.
On July 18, another warrant was issued when she failed to submit to substance abuse testing.
And on September 7, she got a third strike for again using cocaine.
