They are asking just under 50 million. $208,000 a month for 30 years plus taxes and insurance.

Been to that house a few times for social events. It is nice but not 50 million nice and is dated. Just because it was owned by the kennedys does not automatically triple the price.

If you can afford a $50M house, doubt you're the type who needs to go to the bank for a loan.

All those houses in McLean go back on the market about every 4 years. People move in and then realize they can't afford it or go broke.

Don't need to, but do. Your money doesn't make money sitting in your walls.

That house will sell for 43 million tops.

McAuliffe already lives in McLean and could not afford the 6 figure annual property taxes on Merrywood.

Hickory Hill was listed for $25 Million and sold for $8.2 Million. The new owner probably spent as much on renovations and additions as he did for the house at $8.2 Million.

There is no way anyone without stupid money would pay $50 Million for Merrywood. Unless someone with stupid money absolutely must have this property, there is no $50 Million payday for Steve Case.

Looks like a soulless cookie-cutter builder-grade exterior. Nothing at all interesting about the design. Pass.

If Trump could negotiate a "steal" he would snap that property up in a heartbeat!

He would allow Case to make some money, but not that much money.

It'd take a special kind of stupid to pay $50,000,000 for a house in McLean, or anywhere in the DC metro area for that matter.

Wrong ago, JAFO...if you can afford a house that expensive, you will qualify for near zero financing. You'll earn more in interest on your other holdings which would far offset financing paid on the home over the length of the loan and, you'd have more liquid cash on hand over that time.

No, the larger the mortgage amount, the higher the interest rate. Even the most qualified would be looking at near 5% today.

People buy those McMansions in McLean and try to flip them all the time. 80% lose their shirts.

I personally know 3 people that lost over $5 million trying to flip McMansions. Nobody with millions wants to buy somebody else design. They want to build it themselves or re-design.

Reminds me of the mansion for sale in Clifton, it was Kent Huntsmans home. He paid $20 Million over 15 years ago to build it, now he will be lucky to see 1/4 of that.

http://www.sothebysrealty.com/eng/sales/detail/180-l-905-c2rtzf/the-house-that-aol-built-clifton-va-20124

If you're buying a mansion you should have enough money were taking a loss doesn't matter. Lots of gotty arabs and 90210 types who stretch themselves way too thin and will bite off more than they can chew. Even the homes going for a more reasonable $1 - $2M haven't appreciated very well in comparison to more affordable homes.

Guess the price of oil going down for long time is finally getting to the gold stores of the Arabs. Expect the entire McLean/Great Falls tract to soon be up for sale. The developers are going to have a hayday if they wait for oil to hit the 20's in the future......

You should really read through your posts before posting them, with 3 questions in mind. 1. Is it in any way informative? 2. Is it in any way interesting? 3. Is it in any way entertaining or amusing? And when the answer to all 3 questions is NO, do not post it.

Hint: Writing 'LOL' after random stupid statements does not magically make them funny.

I have done work at that house, it has a boiler for heat and 9 central air conditioning systems plus a few PTAC units and one mini-split. Keeping the whole house cool for an average summer month should use about 6 thousand dollars worth of electricity.

When it comes to plumbing, mechanical and electrical in older and larger houses like this, it is funny how people want $50 Million for a house that looks good but on the underside is basically crap. Rarely do people that own houses like these actually properly upgrade and keep up the mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems.

Antiquated systems or update end pieces and connected to old and tired infrastructure.

Usually these homeowners just patch together what is there without a comprehensive view to the big picture. These are small commercial buildings at the end of the day, not your average house.

I would guess there is at least 1 or more A/C unit that has a problem per season. Not to include all the problems with other systems.

The backyard is nice but you can get a setup like this on the Maryland side of the river for less than 20 million.

That’s just because the market is smaller for the homes in that price range. Give ‘em time, they’ll come back.

If you're thinking of buying this place, insist on a home inspection. I hear the owner was an amateur do-it-yourselfer.

So many AOLers had to abandon their half-built McMansions and custom-builts when AOL finally succumbed to the dot-com crash in the early 2000s.

Kent Huntsman has fuck-you money, but a house like that for $5M is hilarious because it cost $28 million in 2017 dollars to build back then.

Where the fuck did the equity go?

And, fuck, he must be colorblind. The whole place is brown, orange, and gray and those antiques are gnarly as fuck. First thing the new owner is going to do is back up the truck and dump all the old furniture and those nasty concrete cats.

People with 50 million don't buy used, they build new. This is a Trumpped house, bought to look pseudo wealthy.
