Trust me, there is a better life outside of the D.C. Area

I left the area 3 years ago. Best decision I ever made.

Where did you wind up going to? I'm looking to get out myself.

A small barrier island off the coast of South Carolina. Daufuskie Island, only accessible by ferry. Golf carts are the main form of transportation. I have worn nothing but Reef flip flops for the last 3 years. Even during the winter months. John Cougar Mellencamp has a home a couple of lots down from mine.

Where did you work when you lived in the area?

IMF. Agreeable pension and benefits. Defined Benefit (Guaranteed for Fucking Life) Pension with annual COLA increases. Substantially more money than I need to live a comfortable late in life scenario.

What do you miss least about living in the DC area?

It provides me great pleasure to know that the life I have now is so much better than the hellhole I used to have. Hard to explain. But when you find yourself in the same position, you will understand. Kind of like having cancer, and then you are cancer free. That is what leaving the DC area is like. You peek back once in a while on the bad times to have a better understanding how your current life is so much better. When you leave DC, you will fully understand and appreciate.

I got a buddy who lives fairly close to Hilton head. Gorgeous house for a fraction of what it'd cost up here, short drive if you want to hit the beach and enjoy a beer and the view with your family.

Petey is bored out of his mind and he's going senile.

P.S Petey, you just made a thread like this a week ago, no need to keep making one every week. I suggest you talk to a doctor about your dementia.

Florida is a great place to vacation, not to live.

Ok, Head South,

Prove you are legit -

Who was your division chief at the IMF?

In which building did you work while employed by the IMF? Were you an economist? If so, which region? Or PDR or some cross-cutting division?

I, too, am very familiar with the great defined benefit (pension) offered by the IMF. I assume you are a US citizen? If so, what other great benefit is offered to you to to offset a benefit granted by default to staff from other nations?

Or, instead of moving to Fredricksburg, you could:

Repeatedly stab yourself in the head with an icepick
Jump into a vat of acid
Douse yourself with kerosene and light yourself on fire
Dive headfirst into a shallow pool from a height of 20 meters

In other words - slow, painful death would be better than having to live anywhere near Fredricksburg.
