my first firearms purchase

Due to the increase in violence, I feel that I may need to defend my family in the near future. Which stores would you recommend?

Nova Fire Arms. A good local family business owned and operated by real Americans. Get the 870 pump and no less than 50 rounds double ought buck.

But you will still need to go to the gun store to buy a holster to put your fish and chips in.

Go to a shooting range like Sharpshooters in Newington, They will advise you well and they have an indoor shooting range to practice and they can train you on proper safe use of a firearm, proper safe storage..in a home..The works.

If you or anyone are truly serious you should take a concealed hand gun permit class. 125 dollars ..about that.. You will learn a whole lot. and you don't have to apply for a permit at all, the training is well worth it by itself.. If you should wish to ever obtain a permit to carry a concealed handgun in Virginia, within 5 years of the class, you will have the necessary training required. (In Less The State requires more..Natch..LOL) And Virginias Permit is valid in 19 some states.. They will tell you all about it..

Tell Um DAJAX sent ya....A Old Kind Christian Man.. "Double Action Jackson" of Fairfax Underground. Who is well skilled at shooting Smith & Wesson revolvers in Fast Double Action Mode..as well as being.."The Cook" on "FXU"

Reading comprehension, Leftist! OP identifies as a "concerned housewife"... though I guess that could be a guy.

NOVA is overpriced. There's plenty of good advice on online gun sites regarding the best guns for your application. For example are you going to carry it concealed or have it with you in your car? Is it for home use only? Buy a gun off of Gunbroker and pick it up from a discount local FFL agent. Take an online safety course and practice at the NRA range. Cheap and nearby.

Know yourself and be realistic about the odds that you will successfully bag Bigfoot when he comes for your Hummel collection. Will you lock your gun up? Are you depressed or prone to fits of anger? Most gun deaths are by suicide. Owing a gun requires responsibility and is no guarantee of heving a successful "outcome"; it's a mixed bag.

Sense of humor, muffakah...does you be gottin' one? This is PRECISELY why what I said was some funny fucking shit all up in here. Lighten up, Francis...and try to see the laughs in the world.

Either that...or go help your Mom clean my spunk from her gash. Either way? Nobody gives a fuck what you think you're entitled to...

Check out Virginia gun trader a used gun listing and buy used, locally. I would recommend a Glock 17 Gen 4 or a Glock 19 Gen 4, both are 9mm and used are $450-500

You can get 34 round mags for these pretty cheap, load up with 147 grain hollowpoints and have a great home defense gun. Load up with Liberty civil defense rounds and you can punch through level 3 body armor.

Then get a Beneli nova tactical or Remington 870 12 gage shotgun and a couple hundred defense rounds. If only buying 1 firearm, get the Glock 19 Gen 4

Then take a class and hit a range at least monthly for practice.

Now you are pretty much ready for the next Black lives matter inspired riot. What occurred in Baltimore and Charlotte, NC ETC. will eventually happen here so be ready.

A decent firearm for your automobile is also a decent idea.
Lots of guys are keeping an AR-15 , shotgun or Ak-47 stashed in their trunk as they know what is coming and given the chance look forward to killing a few liberals.

Shot straight and be safe.

If you really are a woman (and not a troll), you need to find a gun that fits your hand comfortably. Go to the gun show, handle and hold different makes and models. Find one you like and then research pricing. Bud's is a good place to shop online as is Gallery Of Guns. You don't need some suppressor ready HK VP9 or .50 cal desert eagle. A simple 9mm will do.

Buy it. Train with it. Know it. And use it if you have to.

Yes! Fewer guns. More hush puppies, fried fish and chips. Can't we all just get along and eat fresh fish from a little paper basket?

OP-steer clear of NOVA Firearms in Vienna. Their mark up is ludicrous.

Go to these ranges and rent stuff. Blue Ridge Arsenal and Silver Eagle Group (there are other great ranges out there, but a far drive).

When you have an idea of what you want, go to Silver Eagle Group, Loudon Guns (Leesburg), NOVA Firearms (Herndon...if they have a good deal), Virginia Arms Co. (Manassas), or Clark Brothers (if it's a nice driving day) and get what you like. Buy ammo at WalMartm cheapest place.

If getting a pistol, the glock 19 is the entry level common choice. I'd recommend a sig sauer, specifically a p320. If you want a 45 acp, prepare to pay much more (but they are freakin' awesome to shoot). 9mm, .40, or .45 depends on what recoil you and your wife are comfortable with. Also, Springfield, glock, smith & wesson, sig sauer, walther, or beretta are solid brands. Steer clear from anything kel-tec...and Taurus is OK, it's hit or miss if you'd get a lemon, or not.

Rifles and shotguns? Not sure. Other people can comment on that.

What experience if any, do you have with firearms? Do you believe that at this moment you have an immediate threat to your safety? Do you want to protect yourself at home or when you are out and about after dark?

If you can ignore the idiocy and obscene comments above there are actually a couple of guys that responded here that clearly have some worthwhile advice.

However, I feel compelled to throw my 2 cents in as well. I've got more than 50 years of competitive shooting under my belt with all manner of small arms not counting training from the military.

Do not buy any firearm of any type unless you are absolutely going to commit to taking formal training that includes both classroom and live firing on a range! If so, then that's a good start but it is only the beginning of your journey.

Shooting is a perishable skill. Especially if you don't acquire it the right way in the first place. You will need to go to the range a minimum of twice a month for several months to hone your newly acquired skills. The more you practice the better you will become, the more fun you will have and the safer you will be.

Doing this will get you to point where you attain a level of confidence, accuracy, and muscle memory that under times of extreme duress will automatically kick in when your adrenaline starts to flow i.e. when you need it the most. Under these conditions you won't even hear the gun going off or feel the recoil of the weapon in your hands, and that's exactly what you want. It all happens instinctively.

And don't do all your shooting standing 6 feet away from human silhouette targets. Move the target out to 25 feet and learn to shoot at round bulls eyes at that distance. Otherwise you're simply blasting holes in cardboard and not learning anything except that ammunition is expensive.

In most instances, simply producing any type of firearm will diffuse any random confrontation you may encounter. However, this will not work in a situation where someone you know personally is determined to do you physical harm, or is on drugs, or is just plain fucking crazy. In those instances you must be prepared to shoot and kill your attacker. Truth be told... most civilized normal people don't have the stomach for it and think that just waving a gun around will be enough of a deterrent, but don't bet your life on it.
Good luck and God Bless!

Yes, the gun show vendors in Chantilly use this loophole to sell guns to felons at highly inflated prices.

Wrong. Any "gun show vendor" would not be selling on an incidental, noncommercial basis and must be FFL and must do background checks.

The same loophole that allows individuals to sell firearms to other individuals is used frequently in the off-market fish trade.

For example: If person A buys some delicious fried fish from... let's say Arthur Treacher's, they can, legally, sell that same fantastic battered fish to Person B with no background check. They don't even need to get a receipt of purchase or register the transaction of the golden-brown, scrumptious fish.

You need a permit to resell the fish
The chips are no problem
