Regarding junk mail and spam

I Just get tons and tons and tons of junk mail. Someone told me it's better to just ignore it then go thru the trouble of unsubscribing because when you unsubscribe that lets the sender know it's an active account and they will send even more!!!!!!

True or false?

Depends. If it's from a reputable site or using a reputable remailer, then you should unsubscribe and they should take you off their list. If it's just some sketchy random spam, then just tag it as such in your mail client so that it gets flitered and ignore it.

Simply mark it as spam and any future emails from that sender will go straight to your spam folder.

I mark the envelopes as "refused trash mail--return to sender" and send them back. It works after awhile as they have to pay the postage twice. You can get a rubber stamp made and just stamp each junk mail envelope as they come in.

Only for First Class mail. Otherwise it goes straight to the trash.
