A suspect arrested Sunday with an assault rifle at an Upper Northwest DC pizzeria admitted he had come to investigate an online conspiracy theory, D.C. police said Sunday evening in a statement.

Police have identified him as 28-year-old Edgar Maddison Welch of Salisbury, North Carolina.

“During a post arrest interview this evening, the suspect revealed that he came to the establishment to self-investigate ‘Pizza Gate’ (a fictitious online conspiracy theory),” the police department said in a statement.

“Pizza Gate” is a name given to the online false news stories begun last month that charged the Comet Ping Pong restaurant and its owner were involved in a child sex operation.

Comet Ping Pong restaurant and its owner were involved in a child sex operation on websites

The man, not a boy, arrived on scene with a rifle to determine if there were any children to rescue. Why he didn't call police, went vigulante, is un-known (or whether he planned a robbery with excuse - but no criminal history to that end).

(though there is no legal duty to use police to solve problems)

Correction - the websites are obstensibly fake news sites. Why the man didn't realize democrats lie all day and laugh at heroes they imprison, or whether he thought that this gone un-challenged was a test for police ignorance, is a wonder.
