Republicans Angling to Impeach Trump
Posted by: AP staff ()
Date: November 11, 2016 05:31PM

Power in the hands of an outsider does not seem to be on the agenda of House Republicans. Numerous Hill sources this afternoon confirmed off the record that talks have been ongoing concerning an option to impeach Donald Trump shortly after his inauguration in order to install Mike Pence as President, a man with whom many Republican leaders have had a long and comfortable working relationship. It would seem that the crude and often cantankerous President-elect may have outlived his usefulness already.

This is the third time today I've heard this reported. Can they actually do that?

If the Republicans do that, we really will be in trouble. However, they are proving The Donald's point about the Establishment being corrupt. There's no way they'll be able to impeach him without probable cause for starters, so he'll be fine and so will America. Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama have all done horrible things and none of them were impeached even though millions called for their impeachments.

At the same time though, I think this is another media ruse destined to try stumping the Trump which by now, everyone should know is impossible.

Well, normal criminal rules don't apply in an impeachment. The House can vote whatever charges it likes, and there's nothing to stop the Senate from convicting on them. I had not heard this before, but if it's true, I don't think there is anything on the books to stop it.

They tried that with Bill Clinton and it didn't work. They'd really look like fools if they tried it on Trump.

I'd be open to believing your claim if you provide a link. Why would the GOP even think of doing that when he's part of the reason they rule almost every branch of government? Even better he is a moderate who they can mold and coerce to do their bidding.

About the last line, Trump cannot be bought or molded. He'll do what he wants to do, ultimately. We can only hope it remains that way and Trump actually is the demagouge people think he is.

Watch how quickly anyone who tries to impeach Trump is either recalled or voted out of office.

They never had the Senate votes to convict Clinton. The whole sorry escapade was little girl folly and theater. It would have taken a dozen of them, but no Dems were ever going to vote for conviction on the basis of such flimsy evidence and charges, and everyone knew that from the outset. By contrast, Nixon resigned when the line of Republicans waiting to vote for his conviction started to stretch around the block. In the case of Trump, more than just a dozen Democratic votes for conviction would be needed. It would seem doubtful that those could be found simply on the basis of Trump being Trump, objectionable to them as that alone might be.

No more voting for two years. Recalls can take almost as long and are rarely successful. If Republicans do indeed decide to go for impeachment, they can easily get charges brought. The conviction thing would be more difficult.

I'd take up arms to oppose impeachment without cause - that would be a step too far in the destruction of democracy.

The Democrats aren't gonna impeach anyone in their own party. An impeachment looks bad on them as a party. Those traitorous Republican cucks will try to defame (or worse) anyone who gets in their way, the moment they stop becoming useful. So they probably would try to impeach Trump, but they'd need legitimate justification first.

"High crimes and misdemeanors"

- Colluding with Russia to steal and publish private emails?
- Swindling millions out of Trump "University" students?
- Sexually assaulting numerous women?
- Committing statutory rape?

Take your pick.
