Millions of black and brown people suffered under white privilege hegemony for centuries -- and continue to do so to this day -- because of Christopher Columbus. So why in the world would a progressive school system like FCPS given honor to this man and the bigotry he started in this country by giving our kids a holiday on Monday? Christopher Columbus and his men did awful and horrible things to natives and Africans alike in the name of discovery, but you know what? If it wasn't him, it would've been someone else. It could have been the Chinese or the Arabs instead of Europeans. If it wasn't for Columbus, There wouldn't have been European colonization. Because of Columbus, there is an America, and last I checked that worked out pretty well for all of us.

We owe so much for the past. We cannot continue to celebrate the racist people and policies from the past. The strength of African Americans show that they are the best of this country.

The ones that contribute the most to our country are our african american brothers. They are our president, our sports heros, the makers of music, our finest actors. Without them we would be bored and listless, probably keeping ourselves busy by conquering space with no other challenges to face.

As for the holiday, thank italian immigrants, their community wanted a holiday to celebrate to commemorate their heritage.

To see how far we have fallen into the PC, SJW trap, in 1893 there was a celebration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus's voyage - it was the biggest "World's Fair" up to that point - officially called The World Columbian Exposition - held in Chicago, Illinois.

Representatives from around the Globe demonstrated innovations in Science, Literature, Music, Business, etc.

The people of that day understood that Columbus symbolized the civilizing of North, South and Central America, and was the Genesis that led towards the eventual founding of the United States of America.

Now, many want his Holliday abolished.

It is a travesty.

Columbus Day isn't a racist holiday. Deal with it. Get over it. Drop the PC BS.

Personally, I think the kids should be in school on Monday, but it isn't due to any alleged racism. It's because they get too much time off during the school year, plus Columbus Day isn't typically observed in the private sector aside from banks and some financial institutions.

Blacks biggest oppressors over the centuries have been other blacks. Name just one country or city run by blacks that is not corrupt to the point of negligent dysfunction. Conquering black chieftains started the black slave trade. Their greed then expanded it into a lucrative business at the expense of smaller and weaker tribes. White opportunist used these divisions to get rich at the expense of this political travesty. To try and place all of the blame for this solely on whites, much less on one man is not only myopic, but it is counter productive for blacks who claim to want a brighter future and to get past racism. Negative tactics yield negative results. Now you are letting liberal whites to use you to sell your political souls for their monetary and political gain at the expense of weaker groups of blacks that desperately need direction and true leadership.
