Courthouse McDonald's Shutting Down
Posted by: Angry Citizen Fairfax ()
Date: September 28, 2016 09:48AM

One of the employees told me this Friday will be the last at Courthouse McDonald's. They are shutting down operations, as the building will be destroyed for housing units and new stores. If you want pics of a place all of us have known since our childhood, be sure to take them now.

Sad about this and angry as that was a good spot, and is now being used for new Mcmansions and Yuppie malls mix use bullshit.

Jesus, dude, you're mourning the loss of a fucking McDonalds? You have way, way too much time on your hands.

They started selling burgers at that location in November 1978.

Many people have fond memories about that place, and if it is true about the closing, that is sad news.

Damn that sucks. Lot of memories going there as a kid, in high school, etc. The post above me is probably somebody who just moved here from New Jersey or something.

I believe the store at Courthouse Plaza is a franchised location, so the closure is for some other reason.

Has anyone actually confirmed the impending closure?

I'm not surprised if the rumor is true. McDonalds tends to bulldoze and remove stores a day or so after closing, so stay tuned.

McDonald's memories? I can remember the opening day of the first McDonalds in the DC area, on 236 near 95. White tile, huge arches, no seating. I was six, and had a burger, fries, and a coke. Special times.

It is true. Mixed use and lots of memories from there. Its a franchise McDonald's, the employees are relocating to the circle or one by Lowes.

Who the hell eats at McDonalds anymore? What is this 1975? So many better burger places out there without all the McDonalds-type clientele.

Is this the one on Old Lee Hwy? In the strip mall with Safeway?

If so, I still laugh at what happened at Joe's Pizza next door. The suits wanted to jack up Joe's rent. Joe walked. The building is still vacant to this day.

BTW, 90% of Mcdonald's are franchises. The franchisee calls the shots on closings, etc (unless they violate the franchise agreement, that is)

Thanks, Obama!

Too many of those fake-food places anyway.

The City is running them out for the developers. That’s what they are doing to the Aaab Restaurant on Fairfax Blvd at Warwick. They are doing this to all small business owners occupying an older single structure. Apparently, the City is going to vacate a majority of its business owners and then start digging. Driving through the City gives you the feeling we’re a forgotten city on its way out. Soon we’ll have to rescue ourselves by begging the County to take us back.

The City must want more empty places like "Scout on the Circle".

I would be amazed if that place did much business. The traffic patterns in that area would make it a nightmare to get in and out.

Actual facts.
It's a franchisee. (They used to have an office in the office park where I work. They also own the one in Twinbrook and Lee Highway.)

They told us about 5 years ago it was happening. The economy delayed the developer from starting construction. Joe's lease was never renewed to prepare for demo, there wasn't any 'jack up' of rent.

Bullshit.
'The City' isn't vacating anyone. Part of it is to fix flooding and traffic at 123 and 50. Fairfax Shopping Center being emptied is on Regency not able to get someone to redevelop it.

Aabee is fine to survive on their own time.

There is a 100 year master plan. But all the closing and vacancy isn't because of 'the City'. It's the free economy that doesn't operate on nostaglia.

Whoa partner. Are you saying when no one wants to invest in the City's wishes that it is on the property owners? Regency is being forced to take a road straight thru the property. That is the agenda of the former mayor and now sitting council.

When I'm alone I dream of the horizon and words fail me.
There is no light in a room where there is no sun
and there is no sun if you're not here with me, with me.
From every window unfurls my heart the heart that you have won.
Into me you've poured the light,
the light that you found by the side of the road.

Time to say goodbye.
Places that I've never seen or experienced with you.
Now I shall, I'll sail with you upon ships across the seas,
seas that exist no more,
it's time to say goodbye.

Andrea Bocelli
When you're far away I dream of the horizon and words fail me.
And of course I know that you're with me, with me.
You, my moon, you are with me.
My sun, you're here with me with me, with me, with me.

Time to say goodbye.
Places that I've never seen or experienced with you.
Now I shall, I'll sail with you upon ships across the seas,
seas that exist no more,

Both
I'll revive them with you.
I'll go with you upon ships across the seas,
seas that exist no more,
I'll revive them with you.
I'll go with you.

You and me.

It is not 'exactly' being operated by a franchise owner.
It is being operated under a huge conglamerate 'management' company called 'Van Management', if no one else has noticed.
And, 'Van Management' has become so huge, it may as well be, simply, a corporation. Simply designed to be a 'buffering entity' to keep the McD's corporation from lawsuits, directly.
If this 'separate' corporation runs into financial-busting lawsuits, it will simply file bankruptcy, change its name, and recoup the same 'CONtract' franchises with McD's.
This way, if the winning lawsuit never gets paid.
Without all of the 'exposure' that has happened in the past. With plenty of 'red tape' to sift thru, inhibiting the media from geting a hold of the 'story'.
Quite the corporate welfare scam going on to protect the multi billionaire corporate mogels from taking any real responsibility for its business practices.
Van Management is famous for employing thousand of illegally documented illegal immigrants, that has been somehow kept hush hush in the media.
The Courthouse McD''s is one of them.
With all the 'extenuating circumstances' involved with doing so ( employing, criminally, illegal immigrants )
this could be, very likely, what has eventually caused the eminent closure of this particular - and many other - McD's.
The entire truth of the reasons why will never be fully exposed, because our government - being so highly influenced by these megalithic sized corporations with their endless monetary influence is, simply, 'in bed' with what they do.
I say, McDS's became 'too big for it's britches' a long time ago.
There are plenty other much better fast-food joints available these days.
Shut down ALL of the,McD's!
Time for Mr. Crock's - the Jew - family - To get a JOB!

Its not just a MacDonald's, people meet there every day to discuss family, Politics and everything in general. It is a daily meeting place for people who attend St. Leo's Church. Cheap coffee, apple pie and good fellowship. You don't. get that at Starbucks. I have met people who have become friends there. It might not be "Cool" enough for the young people, but there are some things that are priceless. Will miss the employees, who will be moved to different stores in the area. Very sad.

end of lease. sounds like the City Council wants to make some money on developing that land. Oh, maybe that’s just the City Manger and City Attorney who make those shady deals. dirty. dirty pool.

Then explain why they tried for years to lease the space after Joe vacated?

I've known Joe since he opened his first location and I believe his version of events.

its vacant because a developer owns it and he’s waiting for the City Manager and the City Attorney to get rid of the McDonald’s lease so he can buy it up and build it up. The City Crime heads will get their cut.

Easy to explain, it was a short term lease offer while waiting out the McD's lease. Why immediately demo and remove the opportunity to make cash while waiting?

You can believe Joe all you want, but when building(s) go up we'll all know who is really correct.

You make zero sense.
1. The City Manager and Attorney can't just 'get rid of' a lease. Eminent Domain can only be applied at state level. They McDonald's lease was up.
2. You are saying a developer owns it AND IN THE SAME SENTENCE say the city will get rid of McDonald's lease so they can buy it. What is there to buy if they own it???

Fuck the Meals Tax. There should be a Stupid Tax. It would rake in way more $$$ on you idiots.
