Hi there. Quite often, teachers arrive at school around 4:30 in the morning. Of course this isn't the rule for everyone, but a good percentage do arrive in that time frame, and most are at school by 6:00.
Do you remember high school? Not sure how many AP or honors classes you took (who knows, it could have been a whole bunch), but teachers grade projects and papers and tests at home, which is a fairly time intensive job.
Please consider the fact that the teacher's day starts at the very latest around 8:00, and if you're working a 9:00 to 5:00, that's an hour before your job starts. For middle and high school teachers, it's even earlier.
Also consider that FCPS teachers only make slightly more than half the median Fairfax County income. A good percentage work second jobs to stay afloat.
So yeah, teachers have gone home by the time you pass the school, but they also start earlier. Your argument is analogous to saying that because someone who works an earlier shift isn't still working when you go home, they aren't working as hard as you.
