Remember when FCPS closed Clifton HS to try to speed up the renovation of West Springfield HS by a year? We all know that initiative failed, but even now the renovation planning is a disaster.

As you may have noticed, the renovation project at West Springfield High School is finally underway. Construction is expected to take at least three years.

There will be no student parking for the 2016-17 school year at WSHS and at this time, accommodations for alternative parking have not been made.

For those that do not have students at WSHS, but travel though the area for work, please plan accordingly as traffic disruptions will be expected for at least the first week of school.

The West Springfield District Police station will also have officers on-site and will be monitoring the traffic situation closely to ensure traffic flows as smoothly as possible and to discourage "creative" parking on neighborhood streets.

WSHS is expanding sideways into the parking lot. As a result, many classes (48 to be exact) will be moved to an outdoor trailer segment of the school known as "Sparta." This means that about 40% of school is taking place in Sparta.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will allow for additional green time for cars exiting from Tuttle Road onto Rolling Road during the morning drop-off period. In the afternoons, VDOT agreed to extend its midday timing (gives more signal priority to Tuttle Road traffic) until after 3:15 p.m. These changes will be in place by the start of school on Tuesday.

If you or your children will be attending school or events at WSHS please be aware that any parking at the area shopping centers, medical (professional) building, or churches adjacent or in close proximity to WSHS is on private property. Parking there without permission from the owner could result in having your vehicle towed.

In addition, the Police Department has communicated that parking restrictions in the Residential Permit Parking Districts surrounding the school will be strictly enforced and vehicles parked on these streets without the required decal will be ticketed.

It is likely that Friday night football games will also be problematic in terms of parking.

Finally, students who previously planned to access school grounds on foot via the gate on Center Road will find it is no longer available.

So, just how are students getting to and from school? So many older students drive because their band, sports, etc. demands do not coincide with the late busses. Are they expanding the late busses?

I thought VDOT were the only people to fuck up the traffic situation but I guess you can add FCPS to that!

You can rent a space in my driveway for $200 per month. But you have to be gone before I get home from work.

And to top it all off, we have Mr. Mukai as the Principal. A bigger disaster than the renovation.

The school desperately needs this renovation, people just have to put up with some adverse conditions. It's a good life lesson for these kids.

A "small" construction fire closed the school today.

While I was in GTA, I got great tips about such renovations from my friend. He got such tips from his Financial broker in GTA area.
I think some thing went wrong with Infrastructure Financing Committee or their planning was out thrown.

Why try to fix-up Springfield anyway? What a dump.

There are a lot of cool things that should be done, but I don't like few details that make the situation even worse than it was. I understand that the administration always wished to do something good for the students. But they should look at the situation from students' and parents' point of view. My mother is a math teacher and they also planned to renovate the school and to change its infrastructure. In the end, they decided leave the old infrastructure and only do Building Cladding. The workers from that company did a great job, now school looks amazing!

I saw the project of the school, these guys knows what they do!

Still remember how people were split up regarding this subject. I was amongst the people that didn not even give a a sh*t about it. I mean, yeah it is great that it was renovated, however it was not something that we could not live without. Back in 2016 I was really busy with another "renovation" , as I was looking to renovate my house. I even had to change the entire floor, as we had some water leaks in there.I had to call for the best flood water extraction, as I wanted everything to be perfect.
