What really stands out to my olfactory senses is that, although announced about a week in advance, the resignation was carefully timed to be effective one day too late to get a special election for mayor on the November ballot.

Club members taking care of other club members.

From Wiki:

Cronyism is the practice of partiality in awarding jobs and other advantages to friends or trusted colleagues, especially in politics and between politicians and supportive organizations.[1] For instance, this includes appointing "cronies" to positions of authority, regardless of their qualifications.[2]

Cronyism exists when the appointer and the beneficiary such as an appointee are in social or business contact. Often, the appointer needs support in his or her own proposal, job or position of authority, and for this reason the appointer appoints individuals who will not try to weaken his or her proposals, vote against issues, or express views contrary to those of the appointer. Politically, "cronyism" is derogatorily used to imply buying and selling favors, such as: votes in legislative bodies, as doing favors to organizations, giving desirable ambassadorships to exotic places, etc.[3]

It reeks of anything but proper shame and remorse, which he should have at least faked. Instead of rightfully turning over the keys to the City, he held on to them. He had no business making any further decisions on "behalf of the City”.

Adding insult to injury, the City Council, without the slightest evidence of moral conviction among them, chose to protect the interest of Silverthorne rather than the interest of City and its citizens. Outlandish! Throw out the whole mess of them.

Where was the outrage?! Who was protecting the City?

There IS outrage. There is also a club mentality among Silverthorne and sitting council.
The meth mayor is doing a little out patient rehab so his charges are knocked down before Halloween court date. He'll have plenty of time to make a "come back" and with this council he can lead them to their own recall.
There is a group ready to throw them all out and change the locks.

I'd say not only throw them out but not elect the wannabe's who have tried to join the club but failed. I can think of some unsuccessful candidates for City Council who would just rubber stamp what the existing members have been doing. No thanks.

Those seated on council were by silverthorne's maneuvering. Anybody else remember him endorsing a "slate of 6" last spring? It took some political and local media spin, but we watched it happen.
Will there be interest now that the City has the absolute worst reputation brought on by this wolf in sheep's clothing? I have to hope there is a desire of the citizens to see a body that returns to serving the will of the people. That's the only reason to have a citizen legislature.

Yes if you sign the petition you'll get updates and can go from there.
It is true, the petition was for Silverthorne to resign which is done. Also to question his appointment of Greenfield.

It would be helpful to read the staff report prior to the meeting. That report is from both the city attorney and the office of elections it would appear there are
considerations other than statutory with respect to dates

It is the nature of all organisms to first feed and survive, and second to feed and grow. Political bodies or no exception to this rule. While many choose to think that bodies like the fairfax city council live to serve the community, it actually lives to serve itself. They may take the time to solicit community involvement and comment, most of these bodies see the participating citizens as an obstacle to be overcome by incorporation, or by just pushing the desired action through the system by any means necessary. I've seen these bodies of all types and sizes in action for many years. They are only responsive to public when the external force is great enough to threaten their continued existence as part of that board. The safer they feel in their position, the less responsive they are to they community they are supposed to serve. The founding fathers knew this to some degree, hence the checks and balances. When the board manipulated the system to avoid a special election, it was in the interest of continued board control, not community interest, as its nature to survive grow and feed. The community has to decide if it wants to control this body, or be controlled by this body. Your only option to exercise dominance is to ignore the partisan political division used so effectively by the board used for their control of the public, and vote according. Like all organisms, they will use whatever means they have to survive and grow. You have to decide how much. Your vote is your choice in this regard.

O M G.
Did you know the city attorney makes $375,000 a year to work 28 hrs a week.
How much does the Fairfax County attorney make?
Not even half.
H E L L O.
It's not just him.
City Manager makes as much if not more than the County executive.
Fairfax City pays the City Manager Bob Sisson $250,000+ car allowances, bonuses, and the money he STEALS from the taxpayers (that's another thread).
