Leaving Fairfax County

Let the flames begin.

Hi all,

I have been a long time lurker and sometimes contributor to this board. I recently
have taken a job in Jacksonville, FL.

I need a moving company to move a household full of furniture. Any recommendations?

I will miss Fairfax County, the traffic, the day laborers, the parking, the traffic lights, the culture in NOVA and DC etc but it is time for an adventure!

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Good luck with the new job. Downtown Jacksonville is OK in my book for partying. You'll still see day laborers down there too, maybe even more than here. You'll also see alot of "white trash" and "ghetto" that you don't really see around FFX. As far as "culture", get used to Olive Gardens and the transient beach scene.

I seriously wouldn't mind living there, but don't be surprised, your quality of living will be a lot different than the way things work up here.

Thanks for the kind words! I will truly miss DC! I will be at Jax Beach - so hopefully far away from the ghettos. I saw the Jax Suns (AA?) baseball team the other night play for the championship in a large stadium and my estimation, only 8k people in the crowd! FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP!

Other than the Olive Garden, culture is bars around the beach. I hear they have a Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra but I am sure it will make me miss the awesome NSO.

The have an indoor arena, but only 15K seats, so I am not sure if they will get the big shows: Springsteen, Rod Stewart (for the wife), REM etc.

I stopped by a gas station yesterday to ask directions. In front of me in line was a 20 something chick, multiple tatoos, 5-6 months pregnant, buying two 40 oz beers and Cigarettes. Then she bought about $20 worth of lottery tickets and claimed she needed to start a "college fund" with the winnings! I guess that is waht you mean by white trash!

Yep, pretty much exactly what I meant. That's a funny story. It seems like alot of FL is that way. Not that I have a big problem with it, it's just quite different than the NoVA burbs.

Florida is an armpit. The only nice part is the higher end sections of Miami. Other than that, you can cut that peninsula off at Georgia and let the sucker drift up to Europe.
