Hillary says free education how will the US afford that?
Posted by: Economist ()

Just a simple question. If all education is free how will it be funded. I can't figuer it out who will pay for all the student loans and then pay for college for the kids going now. Can someone in a few words tell me how that will work?

It only applies to instate public schools. It sounds like states would have to share the cost burden of the plan if they chose to participate. Out-of-state tuition would probably have to rise to compensate.

Offer a Unlawful ex Order, or any unobtainable freebie. The smart people know its not going to come true as theres not enough money, the stupid will think there going to get a freebie, so they will be pissed at the GOP when they find out it will not happen. Divide the people. The newest tactic of the left.

Expect several years of this if Hillary is elected until she's impeached. It will happen, she will screw something up royal, she will cover it up, then lie and lie and get caught. With another Democrat in the Oval Office don't look for much "Hope" or Change".

If Trump is elected expect jobs to improve, expect fewer people on welfare, expect the debt going down , expect good changes to Obamacare, and maybe some day unless Democrats can get back into the White House there will be enough money to do at least 2 years of free college for everyone.

She's promised a number of tax increases, while Trump has proposed number of the old boilerplate Republican tax cuts (some for the corporate tax dodgers who've moved their HQs offshore). On the other hand, her top aide has also promised another war. This will be an interesting election since the sets of war profiteers and tax cutters usually intersect.

It is easy when you use Progressive mathematics. They will pay for a $35,000 college education (tuition only) by raising your taxes $1000 or so per year for the remainder of your life and if you make over $135K per year you are shit out of luck because you do not get the tuition benefit and you pay the tax.

free school is bullshit that decisions was not made recently - and it's need came from farming not for some idea that keeping kids away from work and reality with their head in a book until age 26 was "a good idea" - but liberals say so ...

liberals in the late 1990's, to raise their wages, began saying "government schooling is essential to success"

this was at same time Teachers Union, homed in D.C. and run by blacks and foreigners, evolved. it's strictly a commie system

the hell of it is, it is a government who is Unionized and setting their own pay WITHOUT ANY COMPETITION

therefore it's an illegal union, would never get by a minute in court if challenged by Union Laws in the USA, and they KNOW IT

they've used this to "superfund" illegals getting green cards, raise their wages, and come in control of industry - extorting industry with certifications.

dems have been massively funneling IRS money to foreign nations under the guise of "science projects" - but also allowing USA money to be used to fund research for PRIVATE ENTERPRISES IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES, such as chinese electronics

furthermore - they've been lengthening the courses, filling them with endless trivia and confusion - to keep kids in school longer

---------------------------------

BIG private industry in USA protested ON TV against democrats moves to use IRS money and "only gov can certify" to make schools a money making machine for Unionized gov employees and top down control - also control of foreigners getting contracts for work and funneling money out of USA.

lastly the more recent publicized democrat move (noting the foremention is still completely denied by them)

is that "ALL SCHOOLS SHALL BE FUNDED THE SAME IN RICH AND POOR AREAS"

that move is also still debated by Republicans - that people who worked hard and saved should not have to SHARE ANY MONEY THEY SPEND with crack heads who fucked and smoked pot and should have to "pay the price" for choosing to be loiterers

we've seen Asians, who got in USA under guise of gov schooling jobs

are now schooling their kids in separate "superfunded" magnate schools

which are anything but equal - they are picked winners who get anything they want and mostly using gov funds

But why do people now think it needs to be free? I understand that the cost has gotten very expensive but why do people think it should be free? A known fact when a couple has kids the number one thing that they start doing is saving for college. Now everyone thinks the government should pay for it while they wasted their money eating out, going on vacations and buying expensive electronics. They why is this the governments problem?

Most people really don't need to go to college. Want sanity? Reverse Duke Power v Griggs and allow IQ testing and dump the doctrine of disparate impact. That decision is largely what lead to the push for going to college to get a good job, since a degree was a proxy for IQ.

Not so much that it's too expensive as that it's becoming unaffordable as currently financed. A large part of that came about through the success of TEA Party tax-cutter types in convincing state legislatures to cut taxes and fund those cuts by slashing support for higher education. Instead of all of us sharing the tab for the costs of college, we began to dump a much higher portion of the burden directly onto students. Then we "felt their pain" by offering them loans that they would not be able to pay back for years and years. The problem here in the end is that -- thanks to simplistic right-wing thinking -- we are now doing it wrong.

> Its supposed to be such a good investment but somehow people cannot
> pay back their student loans.

The returns to education have been higher than the returns to work for quite some time now. This is in part due to the fact that in the sacking of wages and benefits, returns to work have been depressed, again by short-sighted, right-wing, corporatist types of thinking. The weight of student debt derives importantly from the fact that we simply do not pay recent grads enough to both service those loans and live an actual life. They have to move in with Mom and Dad. They have to delay plans for marriage and children. They must in essence work through a period of indentured servitude before hard work can be enough to afford them the free life they'd always hoped for.

We have long offered a free K-12 education to everyone, and 12th grade was once enough. But it isn't anymore -- for anyone. Everyone today need access to some form of post-secondary education. We need to make that happen if we want to stay competitive in the world and move ahead. The word "we" here means everybody.

The economics of this are not actually hard. Remember how easily Bush invaded Iraq without paying for a penny of it. In the case of higher education, not much new spending would be required. We already have more than 20 million post-secondary students, and their bills are being paid somehow. The idea is to re-arrange that already existing funding into a different and less debt-dependent package. It would be a big help to us as a nation if we actually did that.

Training is what pays and pays and pays. Learning a skill through training. So, if you consider training as education, you are correct. However, at least 50% of a college education is wasted classes and useless knowledge transfer.

It's not a lack of education. It's a lack of marketable skills that costs society. Licensed plumbers and electricians make as much or more than PhD teachers.

The issue in Griggs v Duke Power (1971) was that the defendant's hiring practices had no relation to any ability of applicants to perform the jobs being advertised. They were overtly designed to exclude blacks from employment. There was a reason that the decision was unanimous among the justices participating.

> That decision is largely what lead to the push for going to

That's a complete bunch of stooge-fuck bunk. Neither the law nor this case precluded the use of aptitude testing. They called for relevance in the use of such testing, famously alluding to a classic Aesop's Fable noting that serving the same plate of milk to a fox and a stork was not an example of equal treatment. I guess your being a racist dumbshit simply blinds you to such obvious facts.

God, but you're stupid. Attempts to monetize everything are the over-reaching acts of incompetent fools. There is good money to be found at the top levels of every field. The people who end up reaching those top levels are the people who love what they are doing. Those who are motivated only by a longing for money simply can't keep up. Do what you love, and the money will find you. It's as true of those who love plumbing as for those who love law or accounting.
