Construction of mini roundabout in Vienna

There will be road closures so please plan accordingly.

The Town of Vienna is set to begin construction August 1 on what is believed to be the first mini roundabout in Northern Virginia. The intersection of Park and Locust streets is expected to be closed for approximately four weeks through August as the bulk of the mini roundabout construction project is undertaken. Detours will be posted.

They messed up by eliminating the right-turn lane off of Park, but the earlier configuration had led to extra accidents. A mini-roundabout may help traffic flow and safety if it assures that traffic in both directions can easily move from Park onto Locust.

Great. This destruction and subsequent construction will match the pace and look of Ye Olde Vienna Community Center, currently a ghetto-fabulous, blighted mess of rubble and dust.

Thinking positively, if it will be possible to actually make a left turn from Locust onto Park, I approve.

Maybe if this mini roundabout proves successful, we can look forward to another just outside the post office at the death-defying intersection of Lawyers and Church? Wheeeeeeeeee! That will be fun!

There is a mini roundabout in Kings Park, in the intersection of Kenilworth Dr. and Kings Park Dr.

There is one in North Arlington at the intersection of Little Falls and Trinidad.

What will be the rules on this mini roundabout assuming Locust still has a stop sign? Here's one in Kings Park, Springfield.

Normally cars entering roundabout give priority to cars already in the roundabout, but how does it work if you are entering a roundabout from a stop sign (like Kings Park)?

The above picture is NOT a true roundabout. There are no stop signs in a roundabout.

This is a 4 way stop with an island in the middle.

I do not see 4 stop signs. Looks like Kings Park Drive has priority, which Park will probably have over Locust at a T-intersection.

You may be right. They put one on rt 50 at 15 a while back and it works well. I just don't know about the drivers in the Vienna area. We'll see.
