In the building next to the Sunoco, at 2220 Cedar Lane, there is some sort of government office that fits immigrants (not sure if legal or illegal) with GPS tracking ankle bracelets. They work hard but do a crappy job since they aren't that skilled (they're newcomers and didn't go to trade schools) hence the reason they charge a low cost and they are also very exploited by small business owners in the area. I'd rather pay a fair wage to a guy who is skilled and knows what he's doing and doesn't bask outside in the heat in a hammock or on the porch like in their native central american tropical country.

My contention is that the illegals arent the cause, but rather the symptom of greed to save money at the expense of jobs. The irony of the whole thing is the Latin workers know what the going rate is, and really aren't cheaper. And you are correct, they only know some of key points of work being done. By the time you figure out what they have missed or done wrong, they are long gone with your money. Some keep several cell phones and switch after each job. I use them as needed because I don't have a lot of choices to get the work done. The difference is that I closely supervise the day labor's, and train my regular guys. I would rather do it with apprentice's like when I started in the 70's, but it really isn't an option any more. I bet that at least half of all the construction work done in the DC area is being done by immigrants and illegals. But this is nothing new. The Irish, Italian's, Germans, eastern European, and so on. Better learn Spanish if you want to be a player in the construction industry in the future. Near future.

What do you mean you don't have a lot of choices to get the work done? If you are running a business and can't afford to pay your guys a fair wage then you are displaying the greed America is consumed with and the reason why the democrats and some republicans have a hard time deporting illegal overexploited migrants.

You speak of things you do not know. The going rate for labor's, unskilled, is $15 hr. Cash. The skilled workers get anywhere from $18 to $28 hr. That is all higher than what old "$15 an hr for minimum wage but I pay my workers $12 hr" Bernie Sanders pays. And $15 cash is equivalent to $20 taxed. So please spew your white male hatred more accurately if you please. When we're gone you'll be back to third world living in short order.

When I hire men from 7-11, the going rate is $15.00.

Construction jobs were highly sought-after until construction companies decided to drive down wages. Casual labor lets new immigrants survive until a job opens up doing something steady and better-paying. Construction is just the most visible of ways this happens. Pizza places come to mind, as do Greek restaurants, Chinese restaurants, certain aspects of gem and jewelry trading and manufacturing, and, I'm sure, plenty of others.
