Nope. 9 am. 8:00 on Saturdays. Best to call and make an appointment the evening before so you can be first. They take the appointments before the walk in's.

Why you lie Ralph?

i worked there once. they were terrible.

the manager fired me for demanding legal break time (15 min.) after over 6 hrs work

after months of not getting a break and being dealt "a grab wallet variety of words" i said "it's the law and i'm getting it". told me i was fired immediately.

when i was there:

no training (ok in my case, i was already trained) - f'ing foreingers doing everything wrong, low pay

continual focus "speed up speed up" even when there was no line ... a dangerous environment

poor equipment / tools probably imbalanced peoples tires worse than not putting on balance weights at all

probably employees ripped beads and didnt tell cusomers due to broken equipment (customer only notices small but continual leak)

tirerack.com or discounttiredirect.com.

Ship them to your house. Sure you have to wait a day or 2, but you would even if you ordered the tires at walmart/costco/whoever. Make sure you get the road hazard warranty for an extra $5 a tire so if one pops they will ship you a new one free. STILL comes out cheaper than going to costco/NTB/sometimes even walmart (walmart in dulles did a great job too if you MUST have tires that day- I am saying if you have time to wait/don't need them to pass inspection that day or whatever).

Throw them in the back of your car/truck and go to the nearest "llantas usadas" (used tires) by your house (tons in manassas coming down route 28, ron's is my favorite on the right across from that new orchard bridge apartment complex at that new light- at least it is american-owned).

Pay ~$15 per tire for them to mount and balance them for you. If you catch them on a good day and pay cash and are friendly, it could be less than that. If there is no line, you should be in and out in <1 hour.

Voila, done for cheaper than costco and you can go on your own time, no appointment necessary, no sitting in the waiting room for 3 hours.

without a balancer your treads with be scallopped and wear out 2x faster after - you'll be buying tires 2x as fast

is that cheaper than a dealer? no.

Not to hijack the thread, but a side question: 30 years ago when I moved to the area as a broke young buck, I needed to replace a tire on my '72 GMC van. Since it was on its last legs, I suggested a used tire. The garage looked at me and said, "What's that?" (or equivalent).

So, for the old-timers: was I just young and dumb and let 'em sell me a new tire for no reason? Or were used tires not for sale here in 1986? Since I was new to the area, at the time I just thought "Well, maybe Virginia doesn't let you sell used tires" (God knows they won't let you sell a used pillow or mattress, or even give it to charity; I assume in 1806 someone got a disease from a used pillow or something?!)

We now return you to your regularly scheduled carping about Costco Tire Center.

I don't recall straight-up used tires being very common around here back then. You could go to a junk yard and find some but not all of the used tire stores and obviously no Craig's List, et. al. like there is now. Occasionally you might find some take offs at a place like NTW but still kind of rare.

They weren't popular back, probably had as much to do with disposable income as well as shitty tires.

Nowadays, people throw out things all the time that just need some work (look at all the lawn mowers in the trash come springtime), just buy a new one...same thing with tires. Add that to the fact that tires are a lot better now than then, AND...AND our frugal neighbors to the south moving in and you get the rise of the Llantas Usadas MEGA stores.

Rt 28 just across Bull Run into PWC is loaded with them. If you turn up the radio loud enough, you will barely be able to hear how badly cupped the tires are.

A third element was probably the lack of an established channel for a store to acquire used tire inventory.
