It is legal for detectives working on a case to travel out of their jurisdiction for official inquiries.
It is inappropriate, but not illegal, for a detective to go out of his jurisdiction, flash his badge and pretend he is on duty, and inquire whether or not you are fucking his wife or husband.
It is an abuse of power, reprimandable by IA, but not illegal.
