We mentioned yesterday (Wednesday) after news about a new sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a female firefighter in Fairfax County, that it appeared more allegations were coming. It didn’t take long.
Today, WUSA9.com reporter Peggy Fox reports the person in the department who investigates workplace complaints has been reassigned because of posts on his personal Facebook page. Chief Richie Bowers told Fox the posts are ‘inappropriate’ and that he had spoken to Morgan after receiving other recent complaints. But, according to Fox, the reassignment and investigation occurred only after she called the department to ask about the situation.
NOTE: I updated yesterday’s story about the lawsuit with a statement from Fairfax County.
Peggy Fox, WUSA9.com:
New information tonight as we continue to look into complaints from women firefighters in Fairfax County.
They are upset about lewd pictures posted on the Facebook page of the man responsible for internal complaints.
So how bad are the pictures?
Some of them are so inappropriate that we couldn’t show them on TV. The six-foot penis made of snow and half-naked women’s for example.
Guy Morgan, runs the office of Professional Standards at the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, which investigates work place misconduct.
Morgan posted the images on his Facebook page — where you’ll find lots of scantily clad young women, often in provocative poses and tight shirts. Other pictures and comments make fun of overweight people and disrespect women.
“The guy’s title is professional standards officer,” Mike Mohler, the president of the Virginia Professional Firefighters’ Association said. “The pictures are totally contradictory to the title he holds.”
Mohler, who’s been a Fairfax County firefighter for 40 years, says he told Fire Chief Richard Bowers about the pictures weeks ago after the suicide of Nicole Mittendorff.
People who claimed to be firefighters had harassed and slandered MIttendorff on line.
“The vast majority of men are treating women as mothers, sisters daughters,” he added.
Leigh Boswell, a retired fairfax county firefighter said women firefighters are upset with Guy Morgan’s Facebook pictures
Boswell says she also brought the pictures to the Chief’s attention weeks ago.
We also checked with county supervisor John Cook.
Cook says he hopes there will be a thorough and prompt investigation.
