VIENNA, VA -- Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Superintendent Karen Garza and the regional assistant superintendents will be visiting Cuba in the upcoming weeks.
The goodwill trip, scheduled for April 15 to the 21st, 2016, will encompass visiting Cuban schools and meeting with current high school students wishing to come to Fairfax County and attend our public schools.

FCPS invited 6,000 Cuban High School students to write essays on why an “American” education will enhance their Cuban education. Students, parents, and community members in Cuba will join FCPS representatives in choosing which 500 Cuban students will get the opportunity to become members of the FCPS student body for the 2016-2017 school year, based on interviews and the essays submitted.

The FCPS site is being updated. They will announce a similar program with North Korea under the guidance of school board member, Ilryong Moon. North Korean students will be placed in Korean speaking homes in Annandale, and it is hoped some of the visitors will get a taste for capitalism through part time jobs in Korean businesses.
