U.S. Park Police say a man may have tried to abduct a child who was on a school field trip at the National Air and Space Museum. On Tuesday, the department released surveillance videos which show two persons of interest.
Around 10 a.m. on March 3, a group of children was leaving the north entrance of the museum when a man allegedly approached the group, grabbed a child’s hand, and walked a few steps away.
A chaperone yelled at him to leave the child alone.
“It was good that the chaperone was alert and aware of what was going on with her group,” says U.S. Park Police Sgt. Anna Rose. “If I were the parent of that child, I would be very happy about that.”
The man ran and boarded a shuttle bus on Jefferson Drive SW.
“The bus is described as a white shuttle bus, so one of those smaller buses that seats maybe 13-20 people,” Rose says.
On Tuesday, U.S. Park Police released two videos showing two men. The man who allegedly tried to abduct the child is described as a white man with brown hair and speaks with an eastern European accent. The second is a white, heavyset male with gray hair. The men were seen in the museum together.
Police want to talk to the bus companies that had a drop off or pick up in that area between 10 and 11 a.m. that day.

Did either of the men speak German?
Were either of the men bandleaders, or play a wind instrument?
Given recent incidents in the Fairfax schools, this might be worth looking into.

No on both counts. But surveillance video did show them distributing "Hillary for President" and "NAMBLA 2017" literature in the entrance area.
