Confused about the teacher salaries thread
Posted by: Bernie Trump ()
Date: January 28, 2016 08:31PM

I thought just the salary ranges for grade/years of service etc was public information. Obviously there is a list of alphabetical names for FCPS employees since they are currently being posted, but, is that stolen data or public data? If public, where is this information located? I can only find salary ranges by job title, no actual names.

If you want to go the extra step you have to write an email to the FOIA officer. It pointless but you can do it. its legal

You all are crazy to think you can just go to fcps.edu and search for an employees salary on their webpage. The information is out there somewhere like any company has with a list of their employees salaries. There has to be a list for budget purposes, doesn't mean it is public information though.

Apple is a public company, you just can't go to Apple's sure and pull someone's salary by name.

I think what My Views is saying is that there is always a list of names and salaries with both private companies and government agencies. My Views insinuates that the salaries of public employees are not public information.

Whether you are a public company or funded by tax payers, you just can't go pull someone's salary by their name without some sort of inside information.
Is the information out there? Yes
Can you pull a principal's or Mark Zuckerberg's secretaries salary by name? No

Those are govt jobs. Nothing to do with teacher salaries.

Teachers work for the county. They are county GOVERNMENT jobs. Those jobs are funded by the taxpayers. The taxpayers have a right to get salary information on any government employee they want, whether it be local, county, state, or federal. The person who posted that list of names got it legally by submitting a FOIA request. There is no website with all the information but if you ask for it then they must comply. Nothing illegal has occurred here.

You can most certainly pull the salary of a public school principal by name. Their contract is public record, as well as the details of their pay. As long as you live in Virginia and aren't in jail, you are good to go.

Read the post that he was responding to. Which part of, "Whether you are a public company or funded by tax payers, you just can't go pull someone's salary by their name without some sort of inside information" do you not understand?

Apparently you can. So STFU until you can demonstrate comprehension abilities above that of a retarded rock.

Government jobs = jobs for people who work for the government
Government = federal, state, local
Government jobs = federal jobs, state jobs, local jobs
Teacher = local government job

Please tell us you aren't a teacher. Although based on the current tanking test scores in FCPS, you'd fit right in.

Why do government employees make more than private sector employees? Those salaries are ridiculous.

The problem I with all of this is the stupidity of the people "outraged" by the salaries. I have seen so much wrong "information" printed with out having any understanding of how teachers get paid, or what goes into do the job not the least of which is putting up with ignorant, entitled teabaggers that troll this site. Yes it is public information, I am not ashamed of how much I make and yes I feel it isn't enough until I got married. I continue to work a second job, and before marriage lived with roommates most of my adult life. That's in-between going to classes at night to get my required masters. You believe what you believe and have no interest in thinking about anything differently.

I made double the money I make as a teacher when I worked in the private sector. That is what allows me the ability to afford to teach.

When you say teach, do you mean sit on your ass half the year and collect a paycheck?

Are you comparing the salaries of private school teachers to public school teachers; plumbers to teachers; bank tellers to teachers or you pathetic job to teachers. Lets talk about the corporate welfare handed out to airlines, oil companies, and wall street executives. You people will eat your young cause you are hungry and the wonder why you kind is dying out. I can only hope.

Where do you work? I'm a teacher for Fairfax County and I know FCPS does not require teachers to obtain a Masters degree.

They do require that teachers (and administrators) be a whole lot smarter and better educated than the woeful assfucks who post all this knee-jerk anti-FCPS nonsense on FFXU.

I am a teacher and I just got my pay notice for the month of January, and it is about $60 less than the previous month in this new year, because of the rising cost of health care. I saw a specialist earlier this month and instead of paying my usual $20 copay, I was charged over $100.

I feel most sorry for the people who had their salaries posted and they aren't making a living wage working for the school system, and they work very hard. The school system could not run without them, yet they are paid hardly anything.

In another thread, teacher poster said starting salary $32.00/hour. That's an amazing starting salary especially with benefits of Cadillac health insurance, spring & winter breaks that are longer than most people get off in an entire year, 11 sick days, pension, summers off, 7.5 hr work day, teacher work days, etc. OMG....are you kidding me. I'm totally flummoxed by anyone who wouldn't be kissing the feet of taxpayers.

FCPS teachers are clueless when it comes to real world. If it's so bad, why don't you work like the rest of us who are required to work 50 weeks of the year, 5 holidays, Kaiser health insurance as only choice, no pay for inclement weather days, no pension, etc.

It sickens me to see these salaries...especially from the lack of quality and integrity I've seen in several FCPS staff and administration.

There is a major lack of integrity within the school system. No doubt about it.

Not clueless. Went into teaching after many years in corporate America and took a 50% pay cut to do my dream job.

Yes. Money isn't everything. Giving back is important too. But I laugh when people criticize teaching salaries. My son will come out of college making more than I do now.

Schools and teachers are just like any other business. It is wrong of you to make such blanket statements. I know lots of very intelligent and dedicated teachers who love their job and are probably underpaid - certainly making less than they might if they took other lines of work. And I know some that are mediocre and just doing the bare minimum. And some that just pretty much suck. But making no exception definitive statements like this is just stupid. I bet you know co-workers that aren't that great also. We have various levels of dedication and competence where I work as well. And some are overpaid and some are underpaid. Schools are no different.

I wanted to be a teacher- but then I realized there would pretty much always be a bad-ass kid in my class and I would be upset having to deal with said kid(s) and taking time from the ones that WANTED to learn.

Even in private school this is true.

College professor would have been a bit better, but still, I didn't want the pressure of some kid's mom blaming me for their kid's behavior/mistakes! I can't slap the shit out of bad-ass 'lil Suzy since she's not my daughter, so I'll just stick with the field i am in now. Even some adults in college are badass so I said forget it.

Now, if they were paying me 6 figures I'd be all about "how do i reach these kidsssss" because the risk is worth the reward- but for that low pay after seeing the salary thread and the notes from teachers who have had their healthcare go up which eats into that already meager salary- no thanks!!!

I'll just keep volunteering at the boys and girls club thx....
