V22 Osprey Spotted Today
Posted by: 9FUXF ()
Date: January 21, 2016 07:24PM

About 10:30 am this morning, V22 Osprey spotted around American Legion Bridge/Potomac.

Damn this thing is LOUD when it goes into lift mode.

Not sure if it was coming out of Davey Taylor Naval Surface Weapons facility of what it was up to.

Anyone know what this v22 Osprey was up to?

Um, no jackass, lived here longer than the majority of the idiot outsiders. Grew up here, between my wife an I, we have over 110 years of residing in the area.

Ahh...if you've lived here for so long, you should likely know that it's the DAVID Taylor Model Basin, which is part of the Carderock Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center.

You must be looking in the wrong places. I see a few Ospreys in formation flying up 395 at least once a week. They're flying two stars from Quantico to the Pentagon and back. No doubt the one you saw in Cabin John was flying some Marine General or Generals to/from Carderock, who can't be bothered by something as pedestrian as traffic.

Rank has its privileges, though they do justify it by pointing out it keeps the flying hours of locally based pilots up.

You're as dumb as the OP. There is no Helo pad or flight line at Carderock.

Moron.

Yes, I know it is David Taylor Model Basin at Carderock, used to go climbing there when younger so I have driven by on a regular basis.

I spend the majority of my time near the Agency, so I am not further down river often at all and it is rather unusual to see and HEAR the noisy ass V22 in my area. About a 1/2 hour earlier the USCG MH-65 Dolpin was flying in the same general area.

From time to time I see the other things flying, but the V22 was last spotted about 10 moths ago in this area.

Just busier than usual today I guess.

These things fly around Quantico all the time. They are really loud and on cloudy days the sound vibrates the walls from miles away. One day last fall, several of them were doing what appeared to be flight training up and down the Potomac near Mallows Bay. You can also see Osprey birds out there so it is almost like a double rainbow kind of experience.

And yet, somehow, until now, you've never seen one. Nice try, newbie.
