You have to factor in global warming

Nope, FCPS close if it rains to hard or if the temp is below 40 degrees because of the buses don't work.

That snow graphic will be about as accurate as the last 5 years of hurricane predictions. Just bring out the dart board .

All I know is the first snowfall around here is typically around December 12. Get your snow tires, shovel and sand/kitty litter in the trunk NOW especially if you have a rear wheel drive!!!!

Random tire question though- if you only can afford 2 brand new snow tires (I have a friend who just asked me this!) should they go on your back drive wheels if your car is RWD or in the front (for steering)? They just bought a set of 4 all-season tires thats why they are broke- $140 for each as it was a custom size!

I have both types of cars RWD and FWD. An old Chevy muscle car and a BMW.

The new\best tires should go on whatever wheels have the power to the road.

FYI- You'd be surprise how well a new pair of tires allows a muscle to get around in deep snow.

As for snowfall; I expect storms will get more and more intense as the earth warms up. That means heavier snow storms and larger hurricanes. If the US wants to stop the strong storms than we need to cut the carbon emission and air pollution.

I mainly drive the BMW which is a hybrid. 60 mpg is a nice saving at $2.50 a gallon. Especially in DC traffic.

I'm still getting use to the fact that it shuts the engine off at stoplights and sometimes runs entirely on electric with no sound at all.

This should be a much milder winter. Granted after the last two it's hard not to get milder, but the epic El Nino should tip the scales in favor of a less extreme season.

That doesn't mean FCPS won't freak out at the first hint of a snowflake or close preemptively for a forecast that busts. So...

I say 6.

We'll have at LEAST five. Because that's the minimum number needed for the county to apply for a waiver for us to start before Labor Day next year.

So even if we get no snow, they'll find five other reasons to close just to get us to that point. Too cold, too windy, potential for a dusting, etc.
