How Asian-American Voters Went From Republican To Democratic

In 2012, nearly three-quarters of Asian-American voters went for President Obama. But, rewind — 20 years prior — and you'll find fewer than a third voted Democrat.

In fact, in the span of two decades, the Asian-American vote in presidential elections has gone from being solidly Republican, to increasingly Democrat.

And Bobby McD won Asians in 2009 and Repubs got 51% of the Asian vote per exit polls last fall.

Asians are very swingy but they need to be wooed. Trump is poison.

2014 exit polls - aka "last fall" - last fall not being 2012.

Asians are industrious and productive, so naturally they are Conservative. Maybe a few women might be drawn by Democrat nonsense, but the vast majority of Asians will stay Conservative. Whether they vote Republican is a different question altogether.

That makes sense. It does indeed remind me of the debate over the 2004 Bush Hispanic exit polls (44% was the total, some feel it was closer to 40),

Asians are an anomoly in voting. People think "minority = Democrat" but Asians are demographically much more similar to whites (in poverty, income, education, and marriage rates) than any Hispanics or Blacks. They "should" vote similarly but they haven't lately.

My working theory has always been that as long as immigration issues are front and center R's look evil to Asians by proxy even if no one is talking about them specifically.

Asians also aren't monolithic. Vietnamese immigrants lean Republican. Koreans are mainly unaffiliated. Those that are divide evenly. The rest lean Democratic to various degrees.

Obama is the deportation President no matter what FOX says.

In total, there have been a record breaking 2 million deportations since Obama's presidency -- averaging about 1,000 people a day. Under current immigration laws, deported immigrants are not allowed to re-enter the country. Not only does this split up families and disrupt their economic stability, it becomes nearly impossible for families to visit each other if their children have undocumented status. Because of this Asian are worried about Obama.

However,Anchor Babies will swing the Asian vote to near 100% Dem. Seriously that is THE MO for Asians is it not? Why would they vote GOP if their ticket to the greatest place on earth is in jepardy

Asians, like many foreigners who have migrated to Fairfax, now vote Democratic because they think it represents Democracy. Actually, they have no clue. The Asians vote Democratic because they "fall in line" with their other Asian counterparts/church members/friends. Most only care about their own money and many don't contribute to the tax base. Not all, but most.
