There was a German POW camp off Rt 29 during WW2. The irony is what has been paved over it.

I wonder if any of them had the chance to stay after the war was over. If so did they marry the local women? Would be cool to trace that back.

How do you think we got a space program? They weren't hiring the locals in Alabama.

For those who don't want to read the strangely formatted article, the camp was at 29 and Waples Mill road (north side), and is now the home of the Storage Mart. Ironic, that.

Small camp, about 150 German POWs, and were only there for one harvest season - opened in June 1945 (after VE Day) and closed that winter. Pretty cool though! Thanks OP for posting.

There was another "prisoner camp" off Rt 29 Lee Highway called Camp 30.

Most of the older Democrats here are graduates of the camp from their days of marijuana soaked brains and common thefts due to being Sponges Leeches Too Lazy to Work! Had to say that. And yes its shitty and not all true . But...

Road Gang Fun Anyone, Who wants to mess with the man with "No Eyes" LOL "The Box" ??

I knew some "Roadies" at Camp 30. they told stories of how people would leave them packs of cigs in the brush, 1/2 pints of liquor. I will not divulge how I left them the same. LOL.

Back in those days 40 years back the chain gangs were gone in Va. The guards wore bib overalls what ever had a small badge, usually a pistol on the belt or just had shot gun. the firearms were not for shooting someone who ran . they were min security people. But if they fought among them selves there could be trouble as they had weapons, the tools they used. and just to look good for the tax payers.

Night vision optics created at Ft.Belvouir by German POW, his wife still lives in Statford Landing, right next to Ft. Hunt Park, another high value POW camp.

there simply isn't any doubt: they are from communist countries and sucking down government paychecks because a small cadre of them have taken over some part of the government

Not true. The Greeks invented sex; the Italians introduced it to women.

There's a Wegman's built right on top of where the camp was. It's a German name. Yes, I do know what irony is.
