Annandale HS Teacher on Admin Leave -- FCPS & HS School Admins Negligent

An Annandale High School IB Spanish Teacher was placed on administrative leave last week after strong allegations of inappropriate behavior towards students. Students told school administrators in March, school waited until May to do anything. Parents have not been notified, student's grades are compromised. School is very vague on information regarding criminal investigation. Please spread the word. I will provide as many details as I can.

Make an appointment, visit the school in person and ask direct questions. FOIA their records. Ask your county district supervisor for advice.

Status: The principal of Annandale has suddenly 'retired'. Teachers are speculating that he was forced out due to how the administration handled the situation with the spanish teacher. A letter was sent signed by parents and students to the school board early May. We've basically done all the work ourselves and had to put the pieces together. Fabio Zuluaga, regional superintendent for Annandale pyramid, and Delores Herndon of FCPS have been tagged in emails sent to some parents. The school still hasn't sent out a public notice regarding this issue, even though the safety and well being of students was at risk even after students told the school of what was happening.

I know you are probably wondering what actually happened with the teacher so I will type it as simple as I can, because it's a lot. The Spanish teacher made sexual references, graded unfairly, broke IB code by choosing for students on an IB exam that was supposed to be blind selection, lifted a male student's shirt in front of the class and drew on his body for no reason, failed to fix grades in time for transcripts to be sent to colleges, harassed students, failed to prepare them for exams, and belittled students. All of this was reported to the school by students in early March, but the school didn't do anything until parents like me started to demand answers, which were never given to us anyway.

He shows up at just about every PTA meeting at Stuart. When he's scheduled to attend meetings at other Region 2 schools, he's often a no-show. Maybe he's afraid they'll speak English at those schools, not sure.
