I'm trying to decide what to do in the situation I've found myself in.
Friday night in Reston, maybe 11:30 PM I went through the left turn at the intersection of Sunset Hills Rd/ Reston Parkway. The light was a yellow left arrow when I turned, and I did speed up a bit to try and make the light. It turned to a red arrow while I was still making the turn and in short order I was pulled over and given a ticket/ citation for 46.2-833, "Fail to obety traffic light."
I am 31 years old, male, no prior tickets or offenses. All my registration, inspection etc is current and the cop was suprisingly polite.
So to those who've had a similar situation- is it easier to pay the ticket and take the points on my license? I have 1 positive point from not getting tickets, so this would put me at 3 points instead of the 4 that the ticket warrants.
Or, should I try and find a lawyer and see if it is possible to get it reduced? In turn pay legal fees, etc but possibly not have to deal with points and potential insurance rate hike?
Any takers?
