I go from 395 to 95 every day at around 5:15pm. The past two days the toll from quantico to 610 was 12$. I dont understand this because based on their toll determination formula (tolls increase in the HOT lanes to keep the average speed of each vehicle at 65. Ultimately, the more people in the HOT lanes the higher the toll. The same is true for the opposite) the toll should only get that high if the average speed is well below 65, like being backed up to the merge all the way to the quantico exit. So where do they get that ridiculous number when the HOT lanes aren't packed and traffic flows throughout the stretch pretty much unaffected.
I think this was their plan the whole time. Start the lanes at the beginning of January with minimal tolls for the first few montha. Then when traffic resumes to the typical 95 summer volume, gouge the crap out of the price of the toll.
Mark my words as ridiculous as these tolls seem now, this is just the start.... they will get increase over the next few months slowly but surely and well be looking at a 30/35$ for a one way trip in the afternoon rush hour
